Vintage Wines

Used to be the most I'd spend on a wine would be £2.99 now with the new rule changes in Scotland it could be as high as £4.99 a bottle.

I consider drinking stuff this cheap bodily harm...

Bless your heart. And sometimes...it is no worse than an overpriced plonk.

Is Scrumpy considered a wine? If so, I've wanted to try it since I saw Mrs. Slocombe chugging it on 'Grace and Favour'.

^Not a wine, but a delicious West Country cider. I am also partial to Breton ciders; so refreshing and scintillating in the Summer time.

I'm not a wine scholar by any means, but I love rich, fruity reds; my favorite being Cabalié.

^ Thanks. But I'm not sure I could chug it at 11% like Mrs. Slocombe.

Funny story ...... Many years ago I was given a bottle of Penfolds Grange Hermitage (arguably Australia's most celebrated red wine) from a friend as a thank you for some favours that I did him. I'd never heard of this wine before (and assumed, judging by its very plain label, that it was probably a fairly cheap red!), but thanked him profusely for it, put it away in the back of the cupboard and forgot about it. Months later, I remembered this wine tucked away in the back of the cupboard and thought I might as well open it to have a glass with dinner one night. I took one sip, didn't like it at all, and promptly poured the rest of the wine down the sink and threw the bottle in the bin.

Months later, I found out just how 'celebrated' and sought after this wine really is and I was gobsmacked! Today it sells for upwards of AUS$800 a bottle and is recognized the world over for its consistency and flavour. The particular bottle that I was given was a 1986 vintage, and I can only imagine how much it would be worth today if I'd kept it as an investment!! ](*,)

I've never really liked Australian red wines. They mostly taste too "oaky" for me. I'll happily buy New Zealand white wines, but otherwise tend to stick to "safe" French and Italian wines. Not that I buy much at all these days.

I prefer vintage of the automobile variety

I wish they were as cheap as a bottle of wine

We did crack open the last bottle of Tignanello for Christmas dinner with the neighbours.

It was a 1997 that I got in 2010.....and it was just gorgeous. I couldn't even bring myself to buy it now, but at the time, it wasn't the most expensive wine.

I think that it is pretty much the last of the really great reds that I have been storing.

Ok I’ve got a wine question, what’s a good wine for a drink at night to relax with?

I would go with a Malbec or a Ripassa (not Ripasso)...but sadly...red wine is not a drink to relax with at night.

I love all my red wines...but if you drink them at night...they can result in you waking up at 2:40 am with your cats sitting on your chest telling you it REALLY IS TIME FOR BREAKFAST.....not exactly sure why.

I still drink reds in the evening, but I take Trazadone, so I am counting on a cancellation effect.

Dont overthink it. Just close your eyes and grab a bottle off the shelf.

Works best if you drink in the dark whilst crying and listening to any Dusty Springfield song on repeat.
