What the report fails to mention though is that Microsoft has stopped shipping Windows XP as of February 2007 and that it is only sending out Vista on new machines. They also fail to mention their seriously disappointing numbers in getting corporations to switch from XP to Vista. I believe they expected a much higher number of machines running Vista by now but the slow adoption by current XP users is hurting them big time.

Anyhow - do you have a reference to back up that statement SoonerPet?

Edit: I just provided it for you. IMO that's a moot point since we should then discuss all the platforms that we find Windows on - that would include Windows embedded as well as Windows CE and Windows Mobile but since Vista isn't on a PPC platform it can't really compete there can it? So if we stick to market share on a platform basis then Vista leads OS X on the Intel platform so the premise of the title still stands.
noelie, your above statement is not logical. We are talking OS's for computers. Mac's have either Intel processors or PPC (Motorola) processors. The operating system is the same OSX. Why the marketshare broke it down that way is immaterial. If we continue to use your logic, we then have to add in all the iPhones as they are running OSX as well. Perhaps all Apple products will run OSX some day.
AFAIK Vista only runs on pc computers. So Mac OSX still has a bigger market share than Vista. You gotta compare apples to apples, Not Apples to lemons.:D

I would just like to point out that the larger corporations are always slow to adopt new operating systems because they usually have a lot of custom built applications that have to be thoroughly tested and enhanced before they can run on a new operating system. I know this for a fact because of where I work, we are still on Windows XP. It's only a matter of time before every computer at Disney is running Vista because it's the only logical course of action. If Disney wants support from Microsoft when needed, they will have to adopt Vista and they will adopt Vista.

Personally, I can't wait until they do, I love Vista.

but then how many of the mac users are using OSX 10.3 or earlier?

also the last mac to use PPC was the powermac G4 which was put out to pasture so to speak 4 months before vista's release
and the first intel imacs a whole year before vista

the real question is will 10.5 even make it onto the current crop of macs with 10.4 the features are really quite lacklustre if you ask me and some are even backward when it comes to Apples supposed philosophy of keeping it simple

Woohoo! im still liking vista aswell! not surprised its doing so well!

I heard that Microsoft itself is still running XP on its internal computers because their custom development software isn't compatible with Vista.

I have Vista on both my laptop, and my desktop.

This is a stupid report. It's claiming Vista is a better system than Mac OS X because it's sold more copies? The PC market share is bigger than Macs so obviously the Vista user percentage is going to be bigger than the rest when everyone upgrades their PC's from Windows. Actually, the number should be a lot higher. If anything, this report proves what a disappointment Vista is as only 4.52% of Microsoft's customer base have made the switch.

What a joke. Everyone knows Vista is a copymachine version of Mac OS X.

How come people are saying Vistas a copy or something thats not out yet??

they even copy wallpapers now down at apple ;)
OMG AJ, don't tell me that M$ has a patent on grass? I seem to recall something similar in system 7 or 8 which would be 5 or 6 years ago.
Will Bill stop at nothing? First it was ones and zeros.......:-)

I think they mean its a copy of 10.4 which has been out about 2 years. One feature was spotlight that searches your HD(s) including bookmarks, mail, to do, calendar etc for a keyword. The really well known one is Widgets which became gadgets in Vista. Mac doesn't tell M$ everything it is doing anymore. The ZFS file system would be pretty neat though. If you don't know what it is google it.

As far as the *aero* look Mac has had the *Aqua* look since system 10 came out

Oh right! It were a genuine question, I thought people were saying vista had copied that one that got set back for the iPhone. But it were obviously the older version that Microsoft apparently copied of.

Oh and I dont have Aero. I have Basic.

but microsoft used it as a default for the beta about a year ago and now mac does something almost identical 12 months later

If this was Microsoft you would go on forever ...... oh wait you already do!

"spotlight" came from windows instant search in the vista preview in 2002 which pre-dates anything by apple

except windows search is integrated into every window as it will be on 10.5

mac will now feature live previews of documents like this :D

and coverflow to look through them although i prefer my giant icons
