I have vitiligo on the base of my penis, had it for about 2 years now. Not a lot, but just around the bottom and heads up the back of the shaft a little bit in spots.

I purchased a cream to take care of it. This is the cream:

Apparently it works really well but the only problem is that the spots need sunlight OR artificial ultra violet light for 30 minutes a day after the cream is applied. Obviously I can't put my penis out into the sunlight for a half hour a day so I need the damn light.

I have to find a professional in the medical field that deals with this sort of situation that can help me with vitiligo. I know that will be a dermatologist, but how the hell do I find one? Do I just go into the local hospital and book an appointment with one? Will they help me find a ultra violet light?
 
I think you might not have, what you think you have. Are they little white bumps, like those at the base of a hair follicle? I can't remember what they are called, but there has been threads, on JUB, talking about them.

When I was young, I freaked out them, also. If you look at porno pictures, that have close-ups, you will see them. If I weren't so tired, I would try and search for previous threads.

But if you are worried, go to a doctor. Peace of mind is worth the cost. :wave:

P. S. Look in the yellow pages for a doctor.
 
I'm getting my allergy shots from a dermatologist and he has those lights in his practice. People come there all the time to use them. I never asked why but I guess it is for treatments like what you plan to do.

If you are in the USA, ask your primary care physician to recommend someone. Some insurance plans will refuse pay for a visit to a specialist if you have not been referred by a primary care doctor. Just about every dermatologist in existence will have UV light therapy available in his office.

BTW, vitiligo of the penis is quite common.

I'm Canada so it's free through our health plan but I was kind of hopping for an at home UV light product. I can't be going to the doctor everyday for him to be using a light on my penis. I can just imagine him asking me to move it to the left or the right. I would die, lol.
 
^ You used to be able to buy sun lamp bulbs at Sears for just a few dollars (they looked like flood lights). You could just screw them into a socket and sit in front of it and get a tan! :cool:

Now, I believe all you can buy are tanning beds, which cost thousands of dollars.

In any case, you are much better off having the treatment done by your dermatologist. He will calculate the amount of UV light you get and make sure it is enough to be effective but not excessive.

I can understand your reluctance to submit to the therapy, but it really is silly. If you want to get proper help, you're just going to have to buck it up and deal with it.

But, having said that, you should appreciate that vitiligo is not a "disease." There is nothing about it that can hurt you. There is no particular reason why it "needs" to be treated. Yes, I know some of your partners will think you have something wrong, but that is their problem. You are fine! :)
 
I was always under the distinct impression that vitiligo was a disease even though it's not fatal.

I'm going to look for a dermatologist tomorrow.
 
Contact your primary care provider and ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

There are different conditions that can cause areas of depigmentation. You should have a dermatologist evaluate it to see if in fact it is non-segmental vitiligo and how best to treat it.
