vlc video player. Can this be fixed?

You pretty-much know about my crappy system.

Awhile ago I was advised to download and install the vlc video player. I finally got around to doing it.

I get this. Can it be fixed or am I doomed never to see my beloved videos again?

Do you have Windows 98?
I did a quick search on google and It seems that the later versions of VLC does not support Windows 98.
(Other users have had the same fatal error and they had Win98).

Oh yeah well .. you need those files for it to run under Win98, I assumed you did download the Win98 version already ;)
 
^ No. The link provided quite some time ago took me to a file named vlc-0.8.6i which, for some reason, showed up as vlc-0.8.6g when I checked its properties 'version'.

When I did the Google search, I found and downloaded vlc-0.8.6d. It works very well.
