I just watched "Heroes" tonight and the preview explicitly said the next episode was the "Finale" of the series.

Was it cancelled? I mean, the season can't end this early, right?

Is it because of the writers' strike?

I need answers, dammit!

Yes, the next episode is the season finale. It's not just Heroes, almost every scripted show is ending their season in the next few weeks when they run out of episodes that they filmed before the strike.

With the exception of some reality shows and a few mid-season scripted shows that managed to get a few episodes in before the strike, the 2007-2008 TV season is over.

As for Heroes itself, it wasn't canceled. It'll probably be back next season along with all of the other shows that survive the strike...if the strike is resolved in time.

It's the season finale.

They were planning a second season to begin in February, but it'll depend on the strike.

The season was supposed to be separated into two parts...Part 2 is what is airing now and Part 3 was supposed to air in April (Part 1 was last season). In between the two, they were going to air Heroes: Origins, which was a spin-off that would have introduced a bunch of new characters of which the viewers could decide who would be written into the main show. Origins was canceled almost immediately after the strike started. Part 3 will most likely wait until next season.

They didn't say "fall" in the promos that aired here. It was just "the Heroes Finale..."

Maybe the Canadians have more hope than we do.

What the writers are asking for is quite reasonable when you look at how much money can be made in the future with the added tool of airing so much material over the internet. There should be enough billions to go around....the writers are at their best the heart and soul of the broadcast media.

I agree, it's fucking stupid that the strike has gone on as long as it has, with no real end in sight yet. Just give them what they want. It's not asking for a lot and, as is blatantly obvious right now, the strike is completely crippling the entire industry. TV networks are out of episodes of all of their biggest shows. There are no scripted mid-season shows. The 2007-2008 season is over before it even got into 2008. Movies are being shut down now. These companies are going to start losing their asses REALLY soon and I would think they'd be on their hands and knees begging the writers to come back.

As in finale for the Fall, not series finale....

RG

Yes, I know, but in the promos that aired in the US, they didn't specify "Fall Finale". They're counting on next week being the finale for the entire season. We shouldn't expect to see Heroes (or any other show) again until at least next September.

I think it was going on hiatus over the holidays with or without the strike. Like last year, no?

Heroes Origins has been cancelled for some time now, and yes jhmphx Heroes is going on a normal Holiday Hiatus, but because of the writters strike theres a goood chance it may not return until around September 2008.

As to what robingoodfellow said, heroes ain't over, it's just a normal mid-season break. Some shows do that. In the meantime, that's where "Origins" fill in that gap and it's not likely to be canceled. Tim Kring is even writing for the first episode of Origins. Hopefully, this time around they'd have the right mind to get non-union writers...

Origins has already been canceled. It was one of the first shows to get the axe when the strike started. There's no way they could get the show done in time to air when it needed to air. The same goes for Part 3. Face it, Heroes isn't coming back until next season.

I know Smallville is spacing out their new episodes in order to save their season. The CW will air one new episode in December, then the next new one airing in January. The writers are hoping by then everything will be worked out and they can continue with the remaining scripts.
