It's not even the content, for the most part. It's the way it's phrased. Then again, the way something is phrased, especially in generalities, lays a roadmap for content introduction and discussion.
*I've come to the conclusion that a lot of people aren't used to specifics in spoken conversation - going by effectiveness in word choices, anyway, and how often writers must beat the 'show, don't tell' into their own noggins'. Ime, that specificity goes at least as far in basic communication as it does to push a point in someone's favorite fable.
Everyone must phrase things in a face-saving manner, the generalities of which carefully surround a spoken conception so's not to accidentally give offense. I've noticed people are often very particular with the generalities of their phrasing. Not that I'm against saving-face, but often the way it's done in the usa leaves whole opinions out in the cold because there's little room left to introduce them.
-Don't mind me, I've been whittering away next door to forever about how general phrasing in specific community conversations restricts how someone's allowed to impart opinion vs information.

Most people here think China when such comes up, but the West has at least as much social restriction for 'ease of communication'. Quite a bit of it seems to be based on some damn stupid stereotypes, but that's not exactly a surprise, there.
