Notice the TOP item on the grocery list were cigarettes, which at today's prices probably equaled the cost of all of the food.

We had some notorious rednecks in my hometown, who lived on welfare checks when they weren't eating jail food. My mother followed them through a checkout at Kroger once and was amazed at all of the dog food they were buying for their hound dogs, a couple of cartons of cigarettes, Copenhagen dip, beer, and higher priced processed food instead of dried beans/peas, rice, and healthy fresh food. It's not only spelling, as we don't educate our kids about nutrition either, it appears.
