Want a date with an educated black man?? Good luck

Re: Want a date with an educated black man?? Good

I am going to tread on some very thin ice with what I am about to say, but it is sadly the truth.

I am really tired of all this oppression that the African American community continues to talk about. I am incredibly sorry that your great great grandfathers were slaves and the it wasn’t until recently that the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts were passed, giving you the freedom that you deserve. However, currently African Americans have every chance in the world to succeed. In America, we believe in equal opportunities and not equal results. What does that mean exactly? Capitalism works and if you end up not getting anywhere, it is your own damn fault.

If anything is holding the African American community back, it is itself. Who are the role models that African American adolescents have to look up to? 50 cent? Mike Vick? I mean rap/hip hop teach people to womanize, drink and party non-stop through horrifically tragic grammar (the mainstream stuff anyway. There is a large amount of qaulity sung lyrics). I would like to see nothing more than African Americans out of the ghetto’s and involved in society. But when getting a good education is viewed as uncool, can you really blame kids for not trying?

So what is the solution? Someone needs to step up and be a positive role model for the black community and lead people towards something positive.

I don’t know what school you attended but tolerance was taught non stop at the public school I attended (not my current evangelical private school though). School is in no way shape or form unfair for minorities. Math is math and English is English no matter what ethnicity you are.

Oh dear. Another naive white person who thinks anybody can pull themselves up by their bootstraps and attain the "American Dream".

Re: Want a date with an educated black man?? Good

LOL, lots of people live in that fantasy "If you work hard enough...." "Every cloud has a silver lining" "I think I can I think I can" world. The irony is it's not just blacks who are oppressed, many whites have the American Dream dangled just out of reach because of generational poverty, not to mention all the other "generationals", alcoholism, depression, etc... People treat that "bootstraps" theory like a security blanket, though I'm not sure if the security is meant for blacks or for themselves. "I live in a perfect world where ANYTHING can be achieved by working hard enough!" ](*,)

My favorite part is how they know better than the mountain of socio-economic and psychological specialists who have been studying this for decades and acknowledge that while success IS attainable, it's far more complex than just "trying hard enough".

Basically.

Re: Want a date with an educated black man?? Good

In case you missed the memo, life is not fair. There is only so much we can do to make it more fair. You can sit there and cry about it all you want, but it won't do you much good, because most people don't give a flying fuck. The United States has the highest class mobility of any nation in the world. If I could fix poverty and crime, I would. But nothing is perfect. Idealism is nice, but sometimes we have to wake up and smell the fucking coffee.

And you think America has done all it can?!! :rotflmao:

Oh the irony, of YOU telling ME to wake up and smell the coffee.

And I am not naive.

Your posts prove otherwise.

PS. if you don't like it, leave. Simple as that.

Why would I leave because of your ignorance?

Re: Want a date with an educated black man?? Good

I guess you misunderstand the no flame zone policy. You also did absolutely nothing to respond to my post. You just called me ignorant. The funniest thing about this to me, is that you in your infinite wisdom cannot even come up with a decent argument. Marley and I share different views on this issue, but he has very compelling arguments and knows what he is talking about. I respect Marley, a lot. You, however, have done nothing but insult me and make an ass of yourself.

A decent argument? The argument has been made throughout the thread, and YOU are the one who has yet to even respond directly to such evidence of the oppression you claim no longer exists.

As to your the US has done all it can comment. Considering our system of economics, yes it pretty much has. Capitalism has proven to be the most successful economic system to date. However, there is an unfortunate side affect to capitalism- there will always be poor and there will always be rich. Not really much you can do about it.

Huh? Successful for whom?
