Fans of the books and others, please do not take this the wrong way but they seem too Gay. Armand is twinky Louis and Lestate were lovers etc. I got that info from Wiki and I read interview at 17 and it boared me, seriously I felt I lived 200 years with Louis. I was also ignorant enough to presume that Vampires in this universe were outside such things as sexuality

The reason I want to read them and again fans don't hurt me is simple I watched Queen of the Danmed last night and I really liked the film but I don't want to read soppy books about undead boyfriends having melodramas but the Queen of the Danmed and Lestate interest me because of the films.

What should I do I'm torn as to at least giving it a shot or advoiding it at all costs.

I don't get your complaint, but that's probably because I really enjoyed interview.

why not try it? nothing wrong with reading a book, even if you don't end up liking it. and sorry, but queen of the damned? lollll

The movie "Queen of the Damned" was an abomination. They tried to combine "The Vampire Lestat" and "QOTD" with tragic consequences. I'm a huge fan of the Vampire Chronicles, but you should only deal with the first four books. Anne kinda goes nuts after that. "The Vampire Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned" are hugely entertaining reads, and well worth your time. Very different books than "Interview." In that first book, Rice was dealing with the loss of her daughter, and it focused on poor Louis. The other books focus on the pure hedonism of the brat prince. Give it a shot. They may surprise you.

What he said. The Queen of the Damned movie is terrible and a horrible representation of the book, which is actually one of my all time favorite books. Lestat and Queen have a different vibe to them. I'd say give it whirl.

No bother I will as I said I got alot of info from Wiki which I know I should not take as Gospel but the books came across kinda like old queeny vampire seduces and turns a young twink human they love each other for a while then split up.

In defence of the film I really liked the concept of a Vampire rock star and the concept of these very old vampires who essentially look after humans in the form of Lena Olin's character. I want to look at the mythology I don't want most of my focus being taken up by the Vampires's love lives. So if they differ from Interview I'll giuve them a shot.

I'm a fan (just establishing that)

While it certainly can be and pretty much is homoerotic their "love" isn't based on sexuality so the whole gay part, if you actually read it, kind of flies out the window. They are simply sexual. And none of them are twinks lol

Anyway, the concept of a vampire Rock star, etc IS cool. However (as mentioned above), extremely poorly portrayed in the movie. The movie Queen of the Damned mixed two books together (because they overlapped so much) in such a way as to blow the whole thing apart. The ending wasn't even the same, by a mile (and the movie ending SUCKED, no pun intended).

While, throughout the rest of the books, they keep the sexuality I would say (and it has been several years since I read them so I may have forgotten some) that the "gay" angle becomes lost pretty quickly midway through the Vampire Lestat.

I'm glad you said that because that's what I originally though that the Vampires were sexual. But shows, gay fourms etc state immediately that there's under laying an Gay relationship so thank you I actually thought I was thick for not noticing a subtext to Louis and Lestat in the book Interview.

Again films based on books suck I know but isn't it good that this film makes me want to read to two books it as most have stated butchered???

I would agree that yes it's great that it makes you want to read the books, I guess I just wanted to show that they were quite different. If you really LIKED the movie you may not have liked the books

Sorry I get you now but I usually end up liking the books better than the films lol.

so funny, blacksyringe, I've read the entire series and that is my least favorite of all of them.

Why is that one your favorite (just curious)

Is Memnoch The Devil overly religious? The only book I've ever read of the Vampire Chronicles is Interview. I'm actually in the middle of Lasher and wanted to start reading the Vampire books after I finished Taltos to see how the Mayfair and vampire worlds intertwined. But since you described it as a "debacle" I'm guessing you weren't a fan. I'd love to hear some of your thoughts on it. Without spoilers, of course.;)
