Hey, anyone works out and uses protein supplements here? Powder, BCAA, Glutamine, etc. What's your favourite and what are you using right now? Share some. It'll be a little protein reference thread in JUB. If its helpful, I hope the Mods can use it as a sticky. Only if its useful. Thank you.

I personally use Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey. I find it doesn't taste that bad as it has alot of good stuffs like 4g glutamine, 5g bcaa and stuffs. But I'm thinking of switching to other brands. Tired of the taste. I'd like to change.

Re: Warning:Only Protein Powder users allowd to rs

Ever thought of adding flavors to your drinks?

Re: Warning:Only Protein Powder users allowd to rs

I use N- Large- 2 Chocolate flavor.

Re: Warning:Only Protein Powder users allowd to rs

I use Wellements protein powder. It tastes good, and it's got all the stuff I'm looking for at a good price.

Wal-mart's protein gets my vote for worst ever. Even thought it's not on the ingredient list, it's loaded with creatine. (if you've never had it, creatine tastes like sand)

Re: Warning:Only Protein Powder users allowd to rs

I feel ashamed for admitting this, but I use a generic brand... Exact whey protein. It's dirt cheap, tastes good and dissolves VERY nicely in water - so far it's been one of the easiest ones to drink.

How significant of a difference does it make anyways as to what brand you use? When it comes down to it, powderized protein is just that - powderized protein. Right?

muscle milk is VERY tasty! but is also VERY high in sugar! not the smartest choice is your trying to look cut. BSN makes a nice one, called syntha -6 taste is pretty decent and its talked about quite a bit on the web. and you have to be carefull on your creatine intake... its naturaly produced by your body, if you "o.d." on it your natural production will slow down which ultimily isnt good. good rule of thumb is 6 weeks on 6 weeks off (but i think 4 would be fine) just remeber to take breaks and switch it up a bit.... also go talk to you local gnc or vitamine shoppe guy. they know their shit and are usualy pretty hot!!!

I've looked it it. Its pretty good. Considering that it has multiple sources of protein and digested at different rate. I think it would be perfect as one of my in-between-meal shakes. And the funny thing is, I did consider getting walmart's protein, lol!

I'm using Optimum Nutrition 100% whey. I've been sticking with it for years. It works for me, but I'd like to try for the sake of variety and changing the brand. I haven't heard of Exact whey. Do you have a link for it?

I would go for syntha-6. But then again, considering the price as well. However, it is a great source of protein and other good stuffs. It has fibre and considerable amount of good fat too. Which I prefer not to take after work-out. I might use it for preworkout and in between meals. I'm cutting now. And yes, they are very hot.

keep 'em cumming guys. Appreciate it.(*8*)

Re: Warning:Only Protein Powder users allowd to rs

why not eat real food like lean meat ?

Re: Warning:Only Protein Powder users allowd to rs

Telstra honey,
yeap...mostly chicken breast and eggs. But I can't really have them 6 times a day. So, 2-3 of the meals consist of protein shakes. I used to take protein bars, but they are loaded with maltitol. It doesn't impact the insulin like sugar, but still contains calories like 2-3 cal per gram.

Re: Warning:Only Protein Powder users allowd to rs

I've used many brands of protein powder over the years, and have found that vanilla flavored is the best since I could always add chocolate, strawberry, or other flavors to it. I use EAS whey protein, although any brand is fine IMO. I wouldn't be very picky about it. I've never found mixing it in a glass with water or milk as satisfying as making a shake with ice. I have all my ingredients always together by my blender so it's convenient and quick to make.

One of my favorite protein shake recipes: In a blender, mix two scoops protein powder (about 32g protein), 1 cup milk, 6 ice cubes, 1/4 cup oatmeal. This is my foundation. Optionally, for flavor, add 3 tblsp malt, 2 tbsp flax oil, 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1 heaping tsp creatine (unflavored, optional).

Other variations include adding strawberries, blueberries or other fresh/frozen fruit in place of the peanut butter (everything else the same). You can also try a teaspoon of instant coffee (melted wl a little hot water first) with some chocolate powder for a nice mocha flavored shake (again, in place of the peanut butter, everything else the same).

Send me a pvt message to let me know if you try it and how you like it.

Bon appetite!

alot of people argue the validity (i hope it didnt make that word up :P) of protien powders. from personal experience i can diffently notice a difference in my size and wiegh when i drink a protien shake and if i skip a few. maybe it placebo (although highly doubtful) and maybe it just depends on the person. either way when im in a pinch it works great.

if you havent. check out bodybuilding.com everyprotien powder ever made is on that site, with reviews too....

There was a study carried out recently by a US univeristy, I cant recall off the top of my head which one, but they conducted research on athletes some of whom used an engineering protein suppliement and some who used regular chocolate flavoured milk, like you buy in any gas station store. The results of the trial showed that the chocolate milk showed the same gains as the protein shakes.

If your looking for high protein snacks make canned tuna, eggs and peanut butter, beef jerky and unsalted nuts your new best friends. Suppliments should be just that a suppliment to an already high protein, high calorie, low saturated fat diet. When it comes down to it the basic principal is to stress your system with heavy weights and provide it with excess calories to repair and fortify itself for the next time. These calories can in theory come from any source, however its more efficient to provide your body directly with the building blocks in needs as in protein. IMO protein shakes are the most expensive option and probably unnecessary. I'm sure you could always have a snack of nuts or jerky in your pocket.

Re: Warning:Only Protein Powder users allowd to rs

Protein powder is in short just food stripped for everything but protein.
People that wants to build muscle need 1-2g protein pr lbs lean bodyweight.
Good protein sources are eggs, red meat, fish, chicken, turkey and some milk products.

Lets say, If you weigh 165lbs and want to get enough protein from the sources above, you need to eat:

0,5kg Chicken
+2 liters of milk
+2 Whole eggs
+2 Cans of tuna

Quite alot to eat, considering you also need some carbs and fat.
Another problem is that the foods above isn't particularly healthy.
Whole eggs contain alot of fat, and other good protein sources like milk and red meat has to much saturated fat.
This is where the protein supplements come in.

Pros:
Cheap
Low fat
Takes virtually no time to make
Takes no time to eat.

Another factor is that protein supplements, particularly the whey types is fast-digesting, that makes them perfect for a post workout meal(anticatabolic effect).
Even professional ************, that have both the tima and the money to prepare meals, use protein supplements. A good rule of thumb is to get 50% of the protein from normal food, and 50% from supplements.

Wal-mart's protein seems alright if you want the creatine. It's a cheap way to get it at least. Beyond the taste, creatine's not something I want to randomly consume. It needs to be monitored when taken at such high doses.

Re: Warning:Only Protein Powder users allowd to rs

I also use Optimum Nutrition (Gold Standard). Have you tried all the flavors? They have tons of them.

I've been taking vanilla and double choc. I like vanilla when including in recipes. choc on its own is fine for post w/o. So far,I think strawberry's the yuckest of all. Cookies and cream is delicious ONLY if you mix with milk. If you drink it without knowing its whey shake, you'll think you're drinking Oreo milkshake. period!

I am looking to try the ON 100% natural whey varieties too. Have you tried them?
