  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Was I wrong to be offended?

lol I don't think they mean any harm. They are probably just trying to help in their own way. Your brother is right, you do not need to be educated these days. You just need experience for the job that you seek.

There are some jobs that you can get experience in without a degree. Meteorology isn't one of them. You need a college degree.

His bro was talking about college graduates versus demand in the real world. He did not mention meteorology.

Of course, I filter any advice given to me from my brother through the fact that he's on several years probation (for what, I will not say).

So he probably isn't going to be my first choice for really great life advice.

Good evening everyone. I hope you are doing well, tonight. :D

*clip*

Am I wrong to feel this way? Your thoughts are welcome. Thanks ..|

bonsoir to you, too ... thanks

Are you wrong to feel this way? Absolutely NOT ... it is the ONLY way to feel ....

but ...

it's how you're going to deal with others who don't have your vision and the blatantly ignorant and the cruel ... and the ___________ .

i don't think one should tolerate a rude dismissal of one's self image or interests, but .... malice is probably not intended ... it's more about ignorance and social ineptness ...

inform, if you can .... discuss with those willing to think bout it ... and move on ...

but save your offense for the truly wicked ... i love your attitude ... ..|:=D:

i wouldnt get upset about it. people seem to put their own opinion on anyones career. i have heard similar statements about becoming a teacher. if its something you really want to do, just ignore the criticism and continue doing what you love.

I studied something that paid well, and had a future, rather than something that I was truly passionate.

I all honesty, I didn't have a clue what I really truly wanted to do, so I went for something I sort of liked...

Right now I don't hate what I do, but I don't feel passionate about it either.

I realized that's the truth for most people, so if you find something you are passionate and good about. Go for it!

Those careers are not easy to get into, but you won't know until you actually tried it.

Your brother is right, you do not need to be educated these days. You just need experience for the job that you seek.

His brother said you don't need book smarts in the real world and that general studies are a waste of time. In jdcnow's world, he does need his education in order to open doors to the career he wants.

I never took what his brother said to mean anything about supply and demand.

I don't know if you've had to apply for jobs lately, but many of them require a minimum of a bachelor's degree. Anything more specialized may require a higher degree.
