It isn't playing in my area anymore. I don't think it was out more than two months. It seems like the Pirates of the Caribbean sequal really stole it's thunder. Does anybody know the "official" box office reports on Superman Returns?

boxofficemojo.com is pretty good.

Although the movie was not able to live up to the high expectations, I don't think SR was a complete failure. The US box-office results were not that bad. But in case there will be a sequel, Warner will definitely not pay 260,000,000 $ again. SR was just way to expensive!

It made a small fortune..Wait till it comes out on DVD!! GREAT REVIEWS TOO!!

I didn't think it was all that good, i bet it made a lot of money still though. It's still on at my local cinema here.

Well I think the fact that it did get such great reviews will help when it comes to a sequel. I'm sure it will do great on DVD not to mention all the money they made from merchandising. I saw it and really liked it. I think Brandon Routh is the hottest Superman ever! I hope there's a sequel just so I can see him in those tights again.

Yes it flopped. It's budget was around 250 million and it only made about 195 million.

Current estimate on domestic and international gross is $368,701,916. It's still on several screens here in St. Louis, including the IMAX. Depending on how much longer it brings them in internationally, the film could be looking at $400,000,000 worldwide. And this all before the DVD sales and cable rights.

Not necessarily what they would have hoped for, but not exactly a flop either.

from the 260millions 40mi was from the other times they tried to make the movie, they are trying to do that since the early 90!

Far I know they are going to do a new one, I mean with Bradon "Superlicious" Routh, because you guys know that superman franchise is not going to die so early.

Unless Lex Luthor find the gold kriptonyte!

:gogirl:

Also, with big budget film like Superman Returns, Studios don't see a profit unless it grosses double it's production cost.

I didn't get to see it but it certainly didn't fare as well as Dead Man's Chest which was great. I think the main problem for the film was the lack of a big name cast. Compare it to the cast of any of the Batman films and you can see the problem. I know the original Superman had an unknown in the lead but it also featured Gene Hackman, Marlon Brando, Susannah York, Glenn Ford and Jackie Cooper.

It did well but fell quite below expectations, Warner's better lower the budget for the sequel. Also WB has really overrated how good the reviews it had good reviews not great.

I liked the movie. It may not have done as well as expected, but I still think there will be a sequel. I mean if they made sequels to Fast and the Furious, then most likely we will be seeing another Superman. May be not for awhile, but it will be made.

It wasn't a complete failure, but it wasn't a super duper mega blockbuster like they wanted it to be. They're making a second one anyway (??).
