Have you tried role playing? Role playing can seem silly, but it can actually be very powerful if you put the "omg, I can't believe I'm doing this, this is so ridiculous!" side of your psyche aside for the scene. With regard to fiction, there's this phenomenon called "suspension of disbelief" -- a good movie or book or whatever, will somehow seduce you into keeping the "I know it isn't real" part of your psyche from interfering with your engagement with the story.
