Watchmen

just saw it and i have to say that i liked it quite a bit. the opening credits were brilliant.

my biggest complaints is with the soundtrack... a lot of the song choices just didn't work. i understand that they were trying to put us in a certain time with the music, but at some points it seemed really forced and didn't seem to fit. most noticeable in the sex scene.

the casting was pretty much perfect.

i understand that they have to change things up a little and leave things out and blah blah blah and i'm not a big enough fan of the books to nit-pick, the only problem i had with the new ending was that it just felt really melo-dramatic compared to rest of the story/script. maybe that was just me.

i loved the "you're such an asshole", that was great.

In response to your issue with the soundtrack...They were going for a sense of irony, which they achieved. Its meant to throw you off a bit. I thought the opening sequence with the Comedian and the "intruder" dancing to Nat King Cole's Unforegettable was genius! As was the playing of Haleluja during the sex scene. Granted, I will say the concept is not for everyone, but I thougt it was pretty cool...|

I saw the flick with a couple of Buds last night. It was TERRIBLE...Man I sat and I tried, I tried and I sat...

I did not read the novel...The opening credits went Waaaay too long. The Golden Oldies played every 10-minutes was overboard. Trying to keep up with the flash-backs in the begining got confusing. The whole plot was just too Damn stupid..I saw the trailors through out winter and the costumes & narative clips is what had me scratching my head. So I decided to see the thing anyways in hopes of seeing those characters battle it out with their powers.....NOT..These Super-Heroes didnt have any POWERS all they had was ISSUES....Anger Management, Sexual Frustration & Lust is all she wrote...All the "Watchmen" characters needed was a 1hr session with Dr.Phil....

Even the special-effects were mediocre...$100-million plus dollars to make that film and that is what the Director dreams up? The BEST thing about the film was seeing a nice pair of White Buns and nice pair of Computer Doctored Blue-Buns every 10 minutes. But why pay $7 Dollars to see Man-Ass every 10 minutes when I can look at my own Black Butt for free...

Let me tell you guys how I see it..Because "300" was such a MEGA-hit the studios gave the Director a "blank-check" and 3hrs of film to make a MESS..And a MESS he did make with the "Watchman" film...

This morning somebody on my job had the nerve to say he coudlnt wait to see that shit AGAIN...What?.....Sequal?

I heard that they had actually been expecting about a $70 million opening weekend for the movie, but I thought that was overestimating things myself. I mean yeah the hype was insane and yeah fanboys and mainstream audiences who were taken by the flashy trailers, (that's what gets people in theaters, not promises of philosophical graphic novel based gold), were enough to ensure that it pulled in a nice sum of money, I didn't think it would break massive records or anything. And I really can't see this flick having any legs in the weeks to come.

yeah...I give Watchmen one more week at the top of the charts...if that...Race to Witch Mountain is this friday (and the Rock is family friendly)...and this year has already been screwy at the movies...wasn't Paul Blart Mall Cop #1 for like 3 weeks (and made a good chunk of money)?

I saw the film twice and have had over a month to think about it. It was completely lost on the mainstream public, and reading some of these comments I would have to say include some of these posters.

Sad really.

It could have been better if it didn't have the buildup that it had. People were expecting Iron Man, or Batman, or Superman. Those who did not read the novel or know the story didn't get that this was a character story of masked heros with deep character flaws. The whole thing with the Comedian is that he saw life as a joke; here he is fighting the villains, but he himself is just as villainous.

I think that it will have a cult following like Blade Runner.

I agree.

I really liked the film, but it really didn't have that mainstream value that I'm sure most people thought it was going to have. It was very dramatic, as opposed to the more action-packed films of other comic book movies.
