I'm not averse to drinking tap water - I do it quite often in fact...but I must admit I do prefer filtered to remove the slightly chlorinated taste.

If I don't have time to fill a bottle with flitered water at home, I will buy bottled water to drink in the car (I spend a lot of time driving) - but usually a "generic" brand spring water. I have no desire to spend a lot of money on fancy name brands when I cannot taste any difference.

I too have a Britta filter, and can really taste the difference between that and unfiltered tap water.

Sorry, but I don't like to drink water where fish and other things have pooped in that water!(*8*) (*8*)

I live in Miami: BOTTLED WATER! I do filtered water from the tap for cooking. It really does make a difference. I'd never want to drink Florida water

Whenever I'm asked why I do that, I fill a glass with tap water, turn on the filter and fill a glass with filtered water. I put them both side to side against the white backing on the counter and people realize that our tap water is brown.

The tap water here in Minnesota is generally quite good. Minneapolis tap water is from the Mississippi River, so it's been treated heavily. But many of the small towns have well water. The various minerals that are in the ground make that water taste exquisite.

Austin's tap water is good, but I've been advised to drink filtered water because the high mineral content causes me to get kidney stones.

Every study I have read states that bottled water is no better than the tap water. Has the same minerals, same everything....the advertising guys have people thinking that spending money for bottled water is a better thing for you.

I did however live in a town where I could smell the clorine so bad, that I got a Brita also. I have it in my frig here in CO, but my water comes from the mountains. It tastes good, is very cold out of the tap, and it is also a soft water and not a hard water!

I think a lot of bottled-water lovers would be amazed if they were to simply read the label carefully...many brands state "Bottled from Municipal Water Source!" So, you're paying all that money for the same water that comes out of the tap, with a little bit of filtering thrown in! ](*,)

I assume that "bottled water" includes the one-gallon jugs that you can buy or refill at the grocery store. I thusly voted with that option in mind - I rarely if ever buy the smaller water bottles. I feel the smaller bottles (a liter or less) are a major waste of natural resources, as well as more expensive than refilling the jug.

Living on a farm and surrounded by corn and soybeans, I have NO idea what might be in the yellowish water that comes out of my tap - especially because it does not particularly smell of sulfur or taste of iron. I really don't think that I want to be drinking Round-Up or other agricultural chemicals...

Good old-fashioned Cape Town tap water.

Bottled if out of town, though, or in foreign parts, because drinking tap water is the easiest way to ruin the first two days of any trip anywhere in the world because of the natural bacteria in the water which are different to the ones in your own gut which you have brought from home.

This is particularly noticeable if you're only spending a couple of days at each stop, because you'll be at risk to get the gyppo-guts at each place.

I very rarely drunk water at home. Usually my water is consumed while I'm walking or driving in the car--- so most of the water I drink is bottled, just out of convenience.

That reminds me of when I was travelling in Africa a few years ago. At the time, the Lonely Planet guide was quoting a report which found that 75 out of 78 brands of bottled water available in the Kenyan capital were actually...

...Nairobi tap water...

Tap water in Melbourne all the way. We even have drinking fountains all over the place, something I've notied isn't as common in other Australian cities not sure about around the world. To me most bottled water tastes like crap and Evian is bloody horrible stuff.

Tap water. I chug it a few times a day instead of sipping, so I don't taste anything anyway.
