I guess I should start by saying, we don't actually have a cooler where I work (come on, I'm a cashier at a department store). Well, anyway, a coworker was talking to me about how I shouldn't move out of my parents home until I'm finished with college and such. She mentioned her daughter wants to do it, despite her objections. She then brought up the girlfriend question, and I told her no, I didn't. She asked why, and I gave her my reason, that I'm gay (I could have lied, because minutes before, she was talking to a customer about how late she was at church and shit yesterday). The conversation kind of turned out like this:
Her: You're gay? You're lying right?
Me: No, I am.
Her: You're saying you don't like girls? You like boys?
Me: That kinda is the definition, yeah.
Her: Why? Don't you believe in God? Y'know, God made it for man and woman to be together, not man and man?
Me: I believe in a higher being, but not specifically in the Christian's depiction of God.
Her: God wants you with a woman, not a man.
Me: Well, regardless, I'm still gay.
There was a bit of a break, then she brought it back up, talking about how she doesn't understand why gay people make the choice to be gay. I told her it's not a choice, but you believe what you want to believe. Another coworker overheard, and thought I said I was engaged, lol. I corrected her, and she was relieved talking about how I'm way too young to be engaged
My Christian coworker, I believe she was telling every worker she could. Or at least those that spoke Korean, just so I couldn't understand. One woman she told turned to me and asked if my name was such and such, and she started with "My son is..." but the Christian stopped her from saying anymore (or so I assume, since she quickly spoke in Korean, and the lady shut up, and didn't say a thing when she left.
Ah well, I have no problem with people knowing, as my last workplace everyone knew, and was cool with it, I can only hope my current/new job is the same.
