I get 50 bucks every time they take my blood for research on covid and what happens over time - it is a program intended to help researchers and scientists learn about it and develop vaccines and/or cures. It started out maybe once a month then every three months and they took alot of vials - now it is six months and I don't have to do it again til the end of January.

I didn't even realize I was getting paid initially. I would do it for free but getting paid is nice.

I guess I'm not current on the latest requirements for blood donations from gay men. Last I heard we had to go through an approval process and abstain from sex/sexual intercourse with another man for 3 months prior to donating. I'd assume that'd be the same case for plasma...no?

It's a weird gray area where technically they're not supposed to take donations from men who have had sex with men, they ask if you do and are supposed to defer you, so we lie and they know we lie but they take our plasma anyway cuz it's needed.

The medical field and homosexuality are a parallel to Jim Crow era policies and practices that are still very much in effect today, consciously we know it's wrong but we write it off as normal or acceptable cuz we're taught "that's just the way things are supposed to be."

Once we really get into the grunt work of LGBT equality we're going to find more weird stuff like this and wonder where it comes from. It comes from our history of state-sponsored homophobia.

LOL nah I'm doing fine. I shut down renovations a few weeks ago and now I'm finding myself having really nothing to do. 100% of my income is passive. Then I remembered I used to donate whole blood every other month back before I started my business. Got too busy so I lost track of that. So I Google searched for a nearby donation center and this ad popped up. If I'm gonna donate, might as well get money for it LOL.

Hehe I've been gaining weight during the holidays. Been eating too much. So, it can't be that bad I'm thinking.
