  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

WBC threatened picket of concert: Band showed real class in response.

That does appear to be who they are and will continue to be.

It was certainly good for the band - and for the charity they donated to "on wbc's behalf" (or something like that.)

Westboro Baptist Church only had 13 protesters

clearly their 15 minutes in the spotlight ended long ago

It sounded like some didn't come to keep the donation to the charity down.
That didn't work.

And, since they are based out of KC, having more than 5 doesn't sound unreasonable - even if they are unreasonable ass hats.

Old Daddy-o kicking the bucket probably helped in that regard.

But, they seem to have no local followers joining them, these days. I believe they used to be able to attract large(r) groups of likemindless backup singers from within the communities where the protests were scheduled. Not any more - they seem to be on their own.

I think people just like to make fun of them these days. They're like the impotent little brother trying to annoy the big brother and being toyed with in return.

They're so out of touch. That song came out in 2005, I don't know what they were trying to accomplish. They're really trying to cling to some sort of attention. I would hope that more people pick up on this idea if it did legitimately lower the numbers of people showing up.

More events being protested by the WBC need to respond with something like this. Not just driving a car into them, vandalizing their building, etc. It's a more powerful and meaningful, having them directly support things like the Human Rights Campaign simply by appearing :)

There may be some of that - and this concert may be part of that, but I think people are being vigilant lest they gain more traction.
Although, an argument could be made that they've done more for marriage equality than just about any other driving force in America.

They are SO far off the reservation that even the more ardent conservatives can see the absurdity.

Star Warrior - gotta love Uncle George.
