The population numbers are quite credible, if imputed and from many sources.
The human population is a product of agri-science. The UN itself has been instrumental in averting famine repeatedly in the 20th & 21st centuries by expanding the varieties and agricultural methods for growing rice. Without it, famine would have aborted a population of this size, just as it had repeatedly throughout history. And, of course, advancements in nutrition, medicine, and working conditions have all contributed to longer lifespans, leading to more humans co-existing.
