We have an HP Printer and it rocks. But it's been on since we got it. Is that a prob?

What should I do with my printer?

  • Definitely turn it off. Every night.

  • It's OK if you leave it on for say, maybe a night or two. But you should turn it off sometimes too!

We've had it for a bit over a week and it works perfectly. Don't really have any complaints; it has helped me fill my walls with pictures of hot celebrity ass (not really, but you know what I mean =P) and mostly female artists that I highly respect.

Anyway, is it bad that it's been on for over a week straight? Should we turn it off at night?

I only turn on my printer when I need to use it. After that I turn it off. Sometimes it has a mind of its own and I have to unplug it. But yeah, only leave things on if you are actually using it.

Errr, well it doesn't really matter all that much, though you are wasting power leaving it on (though not that much i'd imagine). Aside from that it's not "hurting" anything by leaving it on. But my philosophy is, if you're not using it, why leave it on? So if it's not that inconvenient for you, there's no problem turning it off when you don't need it either. So why not save some carbon emissions and turn it off?

I never turn off the printer, but I do the computer, especially in Florida where electrical storms come up almost every afternoon.

I Have An HP Printer As Well And I'm Very Satisfied With It,I Turn My Computer Off Every Night And I Used To Turn My Computer Off As Well But When I Would Turn It Back On It Would Automatically Print A Piece Of Paper I Mean Every Time So I Stopped.Any Ideas Why It Would Print The Paper?

I leave everything (computer wise) on all the time. I don't see that it hurts anything other than using power. I dislike waiting for it to boot.

Anyway, I have one of those HP All-In-One printer scanner things. I hate it with a passion. I'm very often tempted to take it out in the alley and smash it to pieces. The print quality is decent enough but the paper feed doesn't work worth a shit. It constantly says it's out of paper when it is not. You have to fiddle and fiddle and fiddle to get it to feed the paper. It's a known problem with this model, not just mine. HP tech support sucks really bad too. I'm not too high on HP at the moment.

Check the documentation. If it has an 'Energy Star' rating (most newer printers do) that means it 'falls asleep' after a certain period of inactivity and uses a very small amount of juice.

Personally, I never touch my printer, but when I am not using the computer I turn off the wireless interface and the rest of it I put to 'sleep'. I can't recall the last time I shut the whole thing down (my laptop that is). Always to sleep, though. When I travel sometimes the TSA person is anal and makes me turn the thing on and 'do something' so that's for speed, too (and always, always make sure you have an interesting desktop (Mac) or wallpaper (windoze) for the TSA dude to see (heh heh).

I have a HP printer/scanner etc., it was a bitch to install, hated the MF, but it DOES do a great job once installed, HP does make good printers.

I would never buy a HP computer. We have them at work and they are nothing but problems, not built for 24/7.

My printer is OFF at home unless I need it, then when I turn it on, it is a dependable workhorse.

Just wish the ink cartridges were cheaper...but hey...they all are overpriced.
