We Have Been Adopted

When my guy gets home from work Hanah flies right to him. Last night she was on his shoulder and I was giving him a few welcome home kisses, just little smacks, she got right in between our lips and started kissing us and making kissing sounds. We started laughing and she started making laughing noises too. We did it for a while, it was such fun.

Hanah opened a can of whoop ass on our ten year old neighbor. Him and his sister came over for a visit with their dad, she was on my spouse's shoulder and when the boy came in she flew to him and started pecking him and would not let go. The little girl went running out the door and my guy rushed to try and get the bird off the little boy. I could not do much since I can't move very fast, nor can I see very well. The little boy ran to me as he was shaken and crying. I had to console him for a while. No injuries, thank God. They came to give her some treats which was really sweet. We have a feeling that she does not like children because every time they have come over she gets really upset.

Hanah is doing great. She is looking beautiful and loves to play with her toys, he has her favorites of course. I made her a hammock out of an old cloth napkin and she absolutely loves it. When we say good night and cover her up at night she crawls into her hammock and goes to sleep. In the morning when I wake her up she comes out of her hammock looking sleepy, gets on her perch and does her usual stretching. And yes, Hanah loves bananas.

Is she still giving you kisses?

And is she saying anything?
She gives me kisses all the time and preens my ears, neck and chin. She makes kissing sounds and says papa and my name but lately her favorite thing is to whistle. I can't whistle but my guy is good at it and they have a good time whistling with each other. She will do a two part whistle for a while and then does one part and waits for him to do the second one. To my surprise she loves to be petted, she will seat on my lap when she wants me to pet her and if I stop she nudges my hand requesting more.

Hanah has learned to clean her hammock. Every afternoon she gets in there and pushes all the dried poop off the hammock onto the floor of her house. We are quite impressed. I make sure that is well cleaned too but I find it amazing that she would take it upon herself to keep it tidy.

Well, Hanah has started masturbating. My best friend gave her a great toy for Christmas and she plays with it all the time, so much so that sometimes she is hesitant about leaving her house to be with us. But the other day I saw her rubbing her cloaca on the toy. She was all puffed up and seemed to be having a great time. She is thriving and seems to be very happy living with us.

I used to have cockatiels, and they used to masturbate. There were two males who would sit on my hand and make whoopee, and I had one female who backed up to me and rubbed her little pussy against me. I suspect that kind of behavior is common among birds of many different species.

Hannah has a bigger better house. She absolutely loves it. We have learned a lot about how to take care of her. Nowadays we have developed a better routine for her. She goes to bed around 7:30 pm and about an hour later we cover her house with a darkening custom made cover and close the room. Every morning my guy uncovers her and opens the curtains before he goes to work. We learned that she really needs about 12 hours of sleep in the dark. She has learned to bathe herself but only in her water dish, so we bought her a bigger one. During the afternoons she comes out of her house and flies around the house but mostly likes to perch herself on my shoulder and when I am working on my desk, she likes to play with a baseball or she just simply will sit in between my hands as I type and preens my hands. She still treats us both very differently.

We are very sad, actually heartbroken. Hannah left us a few days ago. She was lose in the house as we like to let her be free. We were cleaning the front yard after the hurricane and were quite busy coming in and out the front door. When my guy was coming out of the house she flew past him as he open the door. She never came back. We called her, whistle and shook a bag of her favorite treats but she would not come back. We could hear her perched on a tree a few houses down, but she never came back. I have cried so much in the last few days. She kept me company as my guy is at work for twelve hours a day. The house is so quiet. It seems that there is a reminder of her everywhere I look. I miss my little green bird so much.

You might try leaving her house and some food treats outside somewhere nearby. If she recognizes familiar things, she might hang around the area. It's worth a try.

I am so sorry that you lost Hanah. When I was with my ex, we had a cockatiel that we fell in love with. We were heartbroken when he flew out the door, and we were in grief. People who never had a bird don't understand the intense grief you feel. My condolences.

I'm so sorry.

Roxie, the little green Senegal parrot that lives with me, is showing signs of aging. John, my homeowner who has lived with her longer than I have, will be truly heartbroken if/when she passes. We're hoping that may be years away.

Roxie often takes a nap like this. In her seed bowl. And, obviously, seeds get pushed out to make room.
Her cage is lined with newspaper, so yes, that's a picture on her floor.

It worries me but she does wake up.
