  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

We need a gay male superstar athlete to come out no offense Tom Daley.

Tom Daley coming out is important and it does make a difference. The point I was making though is that Daley is a male diver.

If Tom Daley was a NFL player who came out or if he was a top tennis pro or golfer that would mean more. But Daley is just a diver.

I'm going to play the Bastard card and insist that golf is not a "sport" and golfers are not athletes.

Yes.

So, the solution isn't to stop worshiping the wrong men, but to find one of the wrong men who is gay? Riiiiiiight.

"It's not that we don't admire sissies, it's that we need a macho guy to convince the world we're not all sissies." :slap:

Yep.

.........

me thinks..you expect too much

just like this restaurant in Washington:

So basically...
"No offense, Tom Daley, but get back in the closet! We don't want you because you're not masculine enough. We'd rather have some hockey or football players on our team!"
Hopefully some gay athletes of "faggy sports" are reading this so they know not to come out. :##:

What we need is the end of freak show gay pride parades.

I never look to celebrities for a role model, what ever their sexual orientation, what ever their claim to fame.

not exactly earth shattering news that a diver is gay.
If it really is a stereotype as you think, then it is likely because of Greg Louganis. But go back 25 years or so before Greg's diving accident revealed he had AIDS. Before that, he was very closeted and so this did suprise alot of people. Louganis was no doubt a gay male superstar in a different time. Nobody knew it (except his secret lover).

I'd like to see an Olympic biathlon medalist come out, just for the effect on people for whom guns are macho.

There's no such thing as a biathalon. They're either a skier in denial, or a marksmen in denial..............

Lol and the Down syndrome award for dumbest post of the week goes to...

I assume that the quest for a superstar athlete arises from wanting the straight majority to believe that we're just like them except for what we do in bed, so that just as a Peyton Manning grew up with a straight orientation, he might just as well have grown up with a gay orientation. My point about gay pride parades is that if you want to show the straight majority you're just like them, you don't shut down streets and celebrate the ways in which you're not. The comparable ethnic parades--St Patrick's Day and Columbus Day--aren't like this at all.

I have only admiration for Tom Daly, and I think it's great what he did, but I don't feel we need superstar athletes. Or parades. It's more important for each of us to live our own individual lives as well, forthrightly and honestly as possible. Better many stars than a few superstars.

Et BIM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so agreed with you...

But...

society would collapse without them! They're the modern bread and circuses and opiate of the masses -- if we didn't have them, people might have to deal with reality!!!

I agree with you. That's why I'm not keen on the fantasy world of science fiction.

Science fiction is hardly fantasy, unless you're referring to the B-grade and worse. Actual science fiction has been very good at telling us what the future will bring -- like cell phones and big-screen TVs and Blue Tooth and waterbeds and a lot more.
