what hosts are good value for money (reliable) to create a website ?

and is servage.net any good ?

I don't have a website so i don't know. Its for a non porn small business with some video clips. I don't mind the web hosts allow adult contents.

Squarespace. $10 and fully customizable. Unless you have a need to run custom apps give them a try. You can test drive it for free for like 14days.

the price seems expensive.
I want something cheaper. :)

officelive.com is free! Also use quick corps if you need an LLC.

Limited Liability Company you can get one in Nevada for $100 on quick corps it gives you hundreds of dollars in tax cuts.

I once paid to have my site hosted. I paid for two years, and forgot about it once the site was up and running. Then it disappeared when the time was up. No email to tell me that a renewal was due, they just deleted it when the time was up. So, if you're paying, be aware of the termination dates.

Don't worry about LLC stuff. I have friends who use 1and1. They really like it. GoDaddy has some good prices too. It really comes down to what do you intend to do on the site? If you want a blog or something, there are plenty of free sites. You can even point domains to blog sites if you wish. You can customize stuff like Word Press to look like just another website if you wish. Without knowing what you really want it's hard to say.

blog sites would be interesting. :)

First off, if you are running a small business (or advising one) and can't afford $10/month for your website, I'd advise that you return to your business plan. As a small business owner myself, I'd advise you to properly fund your website. Not only are website increasingly your first point of contact with your customer, but also they are open 24/7.

That said, as jav1231 said, without knowing your real intent, it's hard to recommend a web host. I have worked with 6 different web hosts over the past 8-10 years. I use different hosts for different purposes.

When you mention having video clips on this site, do you mean running a "tube" (aka You Tube) site type? Such an enterprise requires specific hosting. If, however, you only want to be able to play Flash videos, any host running php can do that.

Finally, since you are in Australia, I'd recommend Australian hosts. With an Australian host, you won't have to worry about foreign money transaction fees. Additionally, you'll have more luck with support. There may be a time when you might want to talk to someone on the phone. If you're balking at $10/month, I can't imagine you'd feel comfortable calling international long distance (and potentially being on hold for a time before talking to someone).

thanks thackftl, i have PM you.

Just wondering where do people get plain colored backgrounds for website. the smaller the byte the better i guess (so the site can load up quicker).

LEARN how to use and link from FTP and you can do wonders with ANY website.

What? :D  You might also want to invest in a book about HTML/webdesign ;)

Telstra, I'm in Sydney like you, but I use a US host called Dotster. They are pretty cheap (starting from about US$5 a month) and reliable, and they handle all the usual extra stuff like domain hosting, webmail etc. They also provide an online Website Builder application which provides templates to build your own site, if you don't want to build it from scratch yourself.
