Hey Buddy!

I know some people who smoke on the weekends like others drink alcohol, and if that's all it is then I don't see a problem hanging out with them. But, like alcohol, if its every day then I do see a problem, since you'll be sober and they'll be high which will make it hard to relate to them. I, personally, don't like having intimate conversations with people who are only opening up to me because they are high. It just seems too fake.

As for trying it yourself, check and make sure that your job doesn't do random drug tests cause it could get you in trouble.

I know that deep down inside of me, I'm thinking exactly what you're thinking - that is if they dumped me, they are not worthy to be called friends. But hey, it's only easy for me to say that because I know that if it does happen, I will be depressed and shit........

i HATE when people, and i'm not addressing YOU personally, say that weed is always just a gateway to the "hard stuff". i'm a complete and total pothead and have never had the urge to go further. i'll be the 1st to admit i definately DO have a problem with how much i smoke but i figure as long as i'm not hurting anybody else it's nobody's problem but my own.

I don't think Herenthere meant everyone who smokes pot moves on to harder shit. He works in the health industry, so I'm sure he see a lot of the ugly side of drug abuse.

There are some that have addictive personalities (like me) that are more vulnerable and do find it easier to rationalize and say "well, I've tried this, might as well see what cocaine is all about".

I know plenty of people that have smoked weed and done nothing else and still led very productive lives. I don't think it's harmless, but I don't think it's as bad as other addictions can be.

For me, personally, I just kind of grew out of it and stopped finding it enjoyable. I thank God I overcame my other addictions that were more destructive.

I still drink and smoke cigarettes, but aside from that, I just don't enjoy getting stoned anymore.

Listen, confused, the only person you should listen to about using pot is yourself. There will, for all eternity it seems, be plenty of people on both sides of the fence about the subject.

Some say it's completely harmless, others say one toke and you'll lose control of your life and end up in a dumpster.

The truth is most likely somewhere down the middle, where it usually is...

My personal feelings about the drug as it pertains to you are irrelevant. Yours feelings, however, are not.

Keep this in mind if you are worried about the dangers of dating or being around others how have chosen to indulge.

If you feel it's going to be a problem, it probably will be.

I'm 24 and I haven't smoked weed. Some of my friends usually smoke when I'm with them but I don't have problems with that.
I smoked a couple of cigarettes, just to try, and I didn't like it. I think it's a waste of money.

I don't think I have a problem dating a cigarette smoker, but, what are you perspectives on the possibility of dating someone who does weed? Do you see any potential problems with such a relationship considering that I don't do any smoking at all?

You should follow your intuition. I don't see any problems with a relationship with someone (i.e. a pot smoker) as long as they are not trying to push you to get high.

You might want to research a bit on second hand smoke. I'm not sure if it (marijuana) could cause a problem for you in terms of drug testing (the hair sample kind) for a job application, etc.

I was just reading an interview with Gene Simmons of the rock band Kiss. I'll print a portion of it. It is from the book "All I did Was Ask" by Terry Gross who in my opinion is one of the best interviewer there is. She hosts "Fresh Air" on NPR daily.

TG:Well, you've said that you don't use drugs.

GS: Never have.

TG: And you've never had a drink of alcohol.

GS: That's not true. I've never been drunk. At parties when somebody says "Toast" I try to take a sip. But it's true. As soon as I smell alcohol, I gag. I may be blessed with some kind of chemical reaction against it. I won't go near the most beautiful woman who's got my name written all over her, if she opens her mouth and smells like a truck driver who just drank Bud. I'm out of there. Gone. It always struck me as bizarre that women are willing to paint their mouths beautifully with lipstick, and yet smoke and drink and make their breaths smell like garbage heaps. I can't do that. I can't be around people who numb their senses. Everybody's allowed, as far as I'm concerned to take their own life or numb themselves to oblivion. I could care less. I have no sympathy for anybody who lives in America and decides, "I'm going to numb myself with drugs, alcohol, cigarettes." I'm happy to be alive every single day. I want my senses working 24 hours a day.

OK , that being Gene Simmons thoughts and personally I think he's a bit full of himself. It's not my personal view either but I thought I'd just put some ideas out there for you. Myself I like the stuff, but I don't think you would be missing out on a thing if you never tried it.

It's so strange to hear people talk about the illegality of the stuff, because it's just so... commonplace here. It still not 100% legal, but it's been decriminalized to the point where you can have under an ounce on your person for personal use without getting busted. Robson Square on April 20th is an interesting place.

Oh well. Different places, different rules.

I tried weed when I was twelve. It lasted for two years.

Then I saw what it was doing to my older family, and it's true: One can completely lose ambition.

I smoke once in a blue moon, because it doesn't hurt anyone.

But I'm not about to start smoking it regularly for the hell of it.

Weed is a pretty harmful drug in my opinion. You are safe...you might get a little secondhand buzz if you inhale the smoke...but it would take a lot. No worries.

You don't have to smoke as much plant material as it's not as low quality and if you need an example think about smoking just one small hit of high quality pot vs. smoking a big joint or blunt or two of crappy mid grade/schwag herb full of seeds?

You can always vaporize it or just eat it to avoid any damage that the smoke from it does.

I do agree with you that it can cause paranoia but I think that a lot of that comes from the fact that it's
illegal.

It can also cause short term memory problems but these are nothing compared to abusing alcohol daily and how alcohol effects a person's memory/cognitive behaviour.

As far as not smoking it goes, some people aren't into smoking it or even trying it, and someone shouldn't be pressured or made to feel bad if they don't want to use it.
