Sir Ron and I have been aware of this Regional Secret for a long time.
As they have moved East and South into upscale communities from Beantown to Richmond, more and more people are discovering what we already knew.
(Note: They can't sell wine in NYS at the moment)

And, yes, you really can buy black truffles for $999.99/Lb at select stores.

Are you a foodie - welcome to your shopping orgasm.

I don't know if they have Valet parking in any of the locations outside of Rochester - we don't.
But I do have three of these within 5 miles of me. Most locations can't claim that.

Theres been rumors that they want to bring one to my town i don't know how true that is considering they are always in upscale locations. Unless they tear down this shopping center and put wegmans in the nice section of town. Sometimes i go to Cherryhill and stop in and grab some food i love that store.

I know they've focused on the upscale communities as they've expanded.
We have the benefit of this being their home town, so they are all over.
(Not in the city very much - just one store at the more fashionable East end.)

Maybe as they get market penetration they will expand into slightly less affluent areas.

They have mentioned that Wegmans is coming here. I'm poor though, so not my thing.

Wegmans isn't just about upscale grocery shopping. It is truly a quality experience. Oh sure, They have all of the conveniences including a Nature's Market section of the store, which blows Trader Joe's away. They have a carry-out foods section that is better than many restaurants. They have a a floral department, butcher shop counter, fish counter, artisan bakery, and a full-service pharmacy. But they also have genuine great buys. If they put their store name on something, the product quality is incredible. I've been buying the Wegmans French Roast Coffee, which is cheaper than Maxwell House, and just as flavorful. This winter, I tried the Wegmans brand canned chunky soups. They were only 99 cents, compared to $3. per can for the Campbell's Chunky Soups. The New England Clam Chowder and Sirloin Burger varieties were incredibly good! I buy those instead of Campbell's now. Wegmans canned veggies are only 49 cents per can for most varieties, and are as good as, or better than Green Giant, Del Monte , or Libby's. Wegmans has their own line of premium Italian style foods (called "Wegmans Italian Classics") and their line of frozen foods is more extensive (and extremely high quality) than most of the name brands. Sometimes, I complain about the lack of national brands because Wegmans has so many of their own branded items on the shelves, but like I said, the quality is almost a certain bet.

Sir Ron has the right of that.

Yes, I will go to BJ's to buy some things in bulk - but Wegman's also has "Club Pack" products at close to or the same price.

There's a Wegmans being built a half mile from where I work, in Canton, MA. Can't wait!!!!

It is clearly advertising for Wegmans hidden as "news".
I don't like this sort of misleading advertising hiding as news.

So it's kinda like Whole Foods, only cheaper and with more conventional options?

I read something about blowing Trader Joe's away....??? blasphemous!!

If I am ever in the area, I'll sure stop by....

this looks tasty

If they sell Jovial there, I'll check out for sure.

It was their "local colour" or similar "jounalist".
It's what she does.

Wegman's is an exceptional market and company. I have a cousin who works for Kroger in another state where there are no Wegmans.
When I started to describe some of the features a few years ago he said their new stores has Sushi Bars, too.

Then he and his partner and a friend came out to visit my mom - and they went to Wegman's flagship store in Pittsford - and was blown away.

When you have Japanese businessmen coming to Rochester, NY with the express purpose of visiting Wegmans so they can see the store operation, you know it's not just any grocery chain.

One of my friends was a chef at the Chili-Paul Wegmans store (the Wegmans store that I shop at!), which is the closest Wegmans store to their corporate campus in Gates.

He said that it was not unusual for corporate office to bring visitors to that store when they couldn't get all the way to the Pittsford store (which is considered the flagship store). They would get visitors from Japan, Australia, and one day, while he was making custom sandwiches at an island, a group of men in suits showed up and began to talk to him., They were from Loblaws in Canada. So Wegmans, which takes different ideas and makes them their own, can also inspire other stores too.

True stories...many years ago (probably the early 1970s), Kroger made an offer to buy Wegmans, with the proviso that Bob Wegman, the Chairman at the time, become chairman of the merged company. Bob politely declined. He was a true visionary of the grocery business and a philanthropist. He also helped to save the six-pack, a group of 6 Catholic schools in inner-city Rochester, by offering tuition scholarships to qualifying families. Both he and his wife, Peggy, were strong believers in the Catholic schools (Bob was a graduate of Rochester's Aquinas High School, a Basilian Fathers-run high school). While I was teaching in one of those six-pack schools, Mrs. Wegman came to visit my classroom. She was a charming lady and the kids just adored her!

And, of course, my ex-boyfriend, Dave, was a stock supervisor at the old East Avenue Wegmans (which has since been replaced and is now one of Wegmans showcase stores).

I also have a friend, who retired from teaching, and now sells fish at a local Wegmans. He can work as many or as few hours each week as he wants.

They are a company that tries to keep their people happy.

"Every Day You Get Our Best" is more than a motto to them.

Your friend is fortunate if he can work as many hours as he wants - my daughter works there and would love to go full time, but they are keeping her under 30 hours/week.
