Okay, I'm not entirely sure how to exlain this, but I've been having this sleeping problem for a number of years now. I never went to the doctor because it doesn't happen often enough to worry/bother me.

I'm not sure how many of you have gone to sleep drunk, and with the room spinning, but I get that sensation sometimes before going to bed (while being completely sober, of course). The sensation can get so intense sometimes that I can feel my face/body being pushed back in to my bed. The only way I can describe it is being on a Merry-Go-Round that's going extremely fast.

Any thoughts? Anyone else ever experience this?

I am not a Doctor, but it sounds like an equilibrium problem. Could be fluid in the ears or even spinal.

Does it just happen when you lie down flat? Either way....something you should talk to your family physician about.

It would make all of us feel better if you did that.

Yeah, it usually only happens when I'm laying down on my back, but I have had it happen when I'm on either of my sides.

are you active?

can be maybe imbalance in your cochlear of your ear or high blood pressure.

Yeah, I'm pretty active. I walk about 1.5 miles a day mon-thur (to/from class), then I run a mile about four times a week. I also lift weights pretty often.

More than likely Vertigo - go see your primary care and get a referral to a neurologist.

Could be a mild case of Vertigo. I have a pretty sucky case of it. I get that feeling any time I move my head to fast from left to right or if I have to bend down and pick something up and I stand back up to fast, laying down in bed when it's completely dark in my room does it at well.. Isn't a whole lot can be done about it, unfortunately :( Just something you get used to - - - eventually
