There are some very shithole countries in the world, why don't we just admit it.

I'm not saying the people are bad apart of course from some of the rulers.

Can you name any shithole countries ?

I'll pick Pakistan.

I admit that there are MANY countries that are legit shitholes. I'm not gonna give specific example b/c that'll be "messy" lol

I don't think that there's anything wrong with saying that a country is a shithole. Most countries had to go through a LONG process of being a shithole until they industrialized, developed and became halfway decent places to live. Even in super-rich London, the Thames River used to be an open sewer where people dumped their shit.

However, I did disagree with Trump saying that we shouldn't accept immigrants from countries that happen to come from poor countries.

The premise is bad. It's too easy to run down countries.

The president's comments do not deserve any affirmation. It was not objectionable that the disparaged countries were in debate; it was objectionable that they were not respected.

Countries are but aggregations of people, and when one speaks of an entire population, it's wrong to disparage the entire population.

There isn't any decent way to describe a people as in a shithole.

It's not describing the people but the country. It's also seems to be ok and popular if it's the US that's being called the shithole

No true, he did not disparage the entire people.
Country and people are not the same. Political correctness online go too far

Anyway, some part of the US can be a shit hole country too

Certain parts of Scotland are shitholes.

Dundee,Glasgow etc,etc.

Whether they are or not it's irrelevant, there are honest and dishonest people everywhere. So called shithole countries get "tourists" from countries like Norway that happen to be child rapists and drug smugglers. Plus, colonialism is very much alive, plenty of countries are shitholes because developed nations steal their natural resources leaving pollution and no clean water.

Mexico. The cartels have turned the country into hell

Glasgow was a city that I truly wanted to visit when I was a kid -- they weren't called "bucket lists" back then, but - What changed?

Okay i'm being a little bit severe on Glasgow, there are some magnificent places among the dross.

Loads of countries are complete shitholes, that's why so many of their inhabitants want to immigrate to the somewhat less shithole countries.

Most if not all cities or countries that could fall under that title are in the condition that they are in because of the government not the citizens.

There are shithole leaders of countries...the USA is now in the top five of the worst in the world in that category...

....and there are shithole places in most countries.....due to poverty and shithole leaders and other conditions......some beyond control...but I am not gonna blame the people in these places.

Except that the discussion was about immigration. It wasn't a discussion about shithole countries, it was a discussion about allowing immigrants from shithole countries.

You forgot Outer Hebrides.

Those are envious scions of yesterday's empires. We get that all the time.

And I maintain what I said. The country IS the people.

love Mexico --go at least once or twice a year---never had a problem as a tourist---but you are right that the cartels prevent the great people of Mexico from starting a business ---because most business's will eventually be hit up by the cartel---and most of the good humble people of Mexico don't want to be involved with this corruption .

all of us have thought that country is a real shithole---just the president of the free world should not say such a thing---makes him look small and half a real man---which he is.

Venezuela? Zimbabwe? I could go on...What resources are developed nations stealing from these shitholes and leaving pollution and clean water?

I admire Mexican culture. It has many wonderful and diverse subcultures. But, I have to wonder at some point how great a people are when their government evolves to be one of the most corrupt in the world. And Mexico is hardly alone in this. One can shrug off corruption and claim it is universal, but that is not really accurate or adequate to explain the degree of corruption.

In much of the world, paying of bribes is the normal culture. Go to the government office for a permit, pay the bribe to get your case through. That may happen in better countries, but it isn't the required way. A type of cynicism about what government can be is required for this level of corruption.

And extortion is similarly a cancer. Paying protection money is the people's ultimate statement that the police force is a paper shell, and never coming to rescue them. The same indicts the judiciary of a people.

I feel sorrow for Mexico's corruption, and wish all the time that it will be thrown off, but it can only happen from within. Excuses are made about the influence of drug money, but integrity doesn't always have a price. Until that value is adopted, it will remain a lesser country, no matter how much we admire the people.

all of us have thought that country is a real shithole---just the president of the free world should not say such a thing---makes him look small and half a real man---which he is.

QFT. We, like the countries I described just above, are accountable for the corruption we do not rise up against. If we continue on under Trump and do not throw him and his ilk off, we will become accomplices and appropriately blamed for the results.
