  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Well Aren't They Shithole Countries ?

All right, i'll defined shit hole countries clearly.
Ordinary people who want to leave their countries and do not want to come back ... they are from shit hole countries.

Sorry, but I know a lot of fairly wealthy people who retire to warmer and cheaper climates, and they are not from shithole countries.

I think much of the problem is the idiot president talks out of the hole he should be shitting through..

Is there a big difference between a shithole and a hellhole?

There are some very shithole countries in the world, why don't we just admit it.

I'm not saying the people are bad apart of course from some of the rulers.

Can you name any shithole countries ?

I'll pick Pakistan.

Not Canada? Have we softened your heart?

I think this whole politically correct movement has run it's course.

^ This has nothing to do with political correctness. This is all about Trump's prejudice and racism.

Stop trying to derail. This thread is about shithole countries!

I think everyone is focusing too much on the word shithole and completely lost sight of what Trump actually said that is so wrong. He wanted immigrants from countries like Norway and not from shithole countries.

The reason why that is wrong is that the president is the head of state of the US. He's not a pundit on TV, a pro sports figure, or an industrialist. His role is to speak on behalf of the people of the nation, and any crudeness in effect portrays the entire nation as crude. This forum has proven that point countless times as America or Canada or England becomes excoriated by something the head of states says or does.

A second important point is that Trump's statement is akin to building a new development on the edge of the metropolis and making no provision for the working class. It's fine if the minimum wage workers travel by train an hour to and from work to slave away for the rich people in the new development. Trump's selective exclusion of immigrants from poor countries ignores the centuries of exactly that pattern, of turning away from the wave after wave of the poor who came here and worked themselves stupid to make a better tomorrow for their progeny. And from that rich mix, we have had many wonderful developments in this nation.

If we'd winnowed out all but the elite, we'd be the worse for it.

Mr. Trump was asking a valid question in a rude and obscene manner. I doubt there would be this firestorm of criticism had Mrs. Clinton asked the same question in a more decorous way.

Correct. And the reason is valid. The president is not entitled to demean the nation without consequence. When he treats the high office as a bauble to be abused and mishandled, he appropriately becomes vilified for that transgression. It MATTERS how the head of state speaks. Those thinking decorum is archaic and relegated to the Victorians are deeply mistaken.

I'm surprised that no one has asked those with opinions if they have ever actually been to any of these countries.

You don't have to want to live in a country, or think it's a good country to live in, for you to want countries to be respected instead of ridiculed. I may dislike much about North Korea, but I'd hardly describe it as a shithole country. Every country has negatives, some much more than others, but we can want respect to prevail and behave in such a way to uphold that value in how we speak of others.

The slurs in this thread are excellent evidence of how bigoted the term is for many people.

Oh, and I've been to Mexico twice, Canada once, and England once. The closest Canada came to a shithole is Tim Horton's, but no country should be held responsible for their fast food.

^^^^Shithole is completely subjective and without a clue what the other person is referring to...it often reveals the other person's prejudices or lack of knowledge as to what contributed to the situations they observe....

There are all kinds of shitholes IMO....

I would call the SF Bay Area a shithole (of sorts) now...because of large corporations and highly paid workers that have decimated the entire housing market...own or rent.... for people who aren't wealthy. If you want a job in retail or service...everyone of the stores has a HELP WANTED sign in the window...but they better have some living circumstance that allows them to work for a wage that will never even afford a studio apartment.

Teachers can't afford to rent apartments...if they can even find one for rent ....forget about buying a home...in a constantly growing list of Bay Area communities.

The homeless situation is getting to be an epidemic..the statistics lie....

So..while some may see this as a paradise...it is a true shithole for other people....

Could you point one of those slurs out? because I fail to find one, other than the insults you're throwing out at the people that disagree with you.

Having been to quite a few third-world places, I can say that US cities are as bad or worse than those that would be tagged as "shitholes".

San Francisco is one of the few places that I've been to where there was frequently the smell of urine and unbathed humans in a commercial shopping area frequented by tourists. Needle Park in Vancouver was far cleaner and safer by comparison to Union Square in SF.

Ditto in near Boston Common, where I was nearly knocked over by a man chasing runaway poultry that was undoubtedly planned for dinner that night.

There's also Bed-Stuy in NYC, where it wasn't even considered safe to be on the streets in the daytime... or Center-City Philly where you had to know which streets were safe to walk down after dark...
