Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

It was in the bargain bin at Chumleighs for 3 bucks, so I thought I'd find out what all the fuss is about.

I'll read that next as soon as I finish my latest Hamish Macbeth story that I bought a few days ago.

As soon as you've finished the 1st book, you'll want to know what happens at the end of the final book! It's a great series, Joanne Rowling is extremely talented.

no fuss, not great lit, just a very fascinating story very well told - it is a lot of fun and I have enjoyed them all and am in the midst of the new one, enjoying it

if you read to enjoy, you will have fun

The book? - Oh you need to buy the rest. I'm up to finishing #3 but I have 5 of the 7.

Since I've never read any of the books, I have a question -- Do the books need to be read in sequence?

I haven't read any of them yet either, or even seen any of the movies, but, from what I've heard and seen and read, it's vital to read them in sequence. Apparently it's a continuing story (like the Lord of the Rings trilogy).

yes they do, because Harry Potters tale starts with the Philosphers Stone or as its called in the US The sorcerers stone.

heres the list:
Sorcerers stone
Chamber of Secrets
Prisoner of Azkaban
Goblet of Fire
Order of the Phoenix
Half-Blood Prince
Deathly Hallows

I don't think it's absolutely necessary to read them in sequence. Each book is it's own separate story but certain things make more sense if you read them in order.

I'd already checked out the books in Titles downtown, but they were far too expensive for me at that time, especially when I wasn't certain I'd enjoy it. I found the book at Chumleighs, the second-hand store, and through I could handle $3. If I enjoy it, I'll buy the others in the series or see if I can find them in the stacks at the local library.

If you don't read them in sequence though, there are references in them from the previous story, just small subtle things but you get my drift.

please do read them in sequence

please do read them in sequence

I have every intention so to do.

I knew a young woman who would pick up a book, read the first few chapters, then read the last few chapters, then go back and read all the stuff in the middle. I could never understand how she could possibly enjoy a story reading it that way. I can only imagine how she would read a series like Harry Potter.

when I first read one, I started reading book 3 - got engrossed and after about 30 pages set it aside and got book 1 and read them sequentially -

it is just fun stuff, but like LOTR or any other series, sequence is vital

have fun!

and that woman is nuts

being a rabid collector of Harry Potter stuff, I'm glad your'e joining us.

The first book is cute, harmless and fun.

a great kids book.

They go up in reading level and complexity as they go on.. by the final book, there are about 75 characters to keep straight

but it's worth it.
