  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Well I Never Knew Where New York Was.

Thankfully, I've never seen that particular reality TV show.

I'm not fond of bad children. Seems a waste not to prepare them properly and serve them while fresh.

But, there's just no getting around the fact that the fat ones are ruinous to your health.

I would caution you to consume only those which have been grass fed.

:sigh:

there is a HUGE difference between SOUTH Florida and Florida - SOUTH Florida is THEE most liberal place on the planet - Key West - Miami - Fort Lauderdale - West Palm Beach - which represents nearly HALF of the voting power of the state of Florida - throw in liberal hot spots like Tampa - Orlando - Sarasota - and it is THEE closest swing state in the union - some elections are literally decided here by 4 digits... yes - half the state is literally Alabama - but don't be fooled by media that constantly wants to dumbdown Florida - half of the state rivals ANY place in the country including New York - Los Angeles - etc...

People in Tampa sure don't act like their liberals

Well, you were talking about Tampa, where you don't live, so you could compromise and refer to them as "there liberals." :p

And, Tampa is half way down the peninsula, so I honestly thought everything south of the panhandle was viewed as "South Florida" by most folks. I mean, if Virginia is considered South in the states, the correlation is similar.

Guess not.

The State of New York is comparatively small to most states (ranked 30 out of 50 in size).

The distance from New York City to Buffalo is about 420 miles.

Niagara Falls is a twin city. There is Niagara Falls, NY and Niagara Falls, Ontario (in Canada).

Niagara Falls is technically in the USA, but the Canadians have the better view of them.

Horseshoe Falls is on the Canadian side. The Niagara and Horseshoe Falls produce much of the hydroelectric power for Western New York and Southern Ontario!

On a US map, Florida looks like a dick with no balls. Probably why the Trump clan is setting up their clubhouse there.

*they're (I blame autocorrect)

St Pete (next to Tampa - sister city) draws in over 200,000 people for gay pride parade each year - over half of those people are "straight" - it's pretty damn liberal....

Basically correct. Right now Florida is having to deal with its little wannabe dictator DeSantis (elected in one of those razor-thin contests, BTW), who totally screwed up the response to the Covid pandemic (response? what response?). But recently he orchestrated a heavy-handed raid on Rebekah Jones' house, seizing her laptops and other electronic devices, in a chilling effort to silence her. She was in charge of the state health response until DeSantis fired her, because she refused to go along with his scheme to cover up Covid cases in the state. Undeterred, Jones continued to publish her dashboard of Covid stats and criticize the state's response. I guess DeSantis figured he needed to make an example out of her.

Tampa itself is quite liberal. In fact, many Cubans living there supported the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s. But Tampa is surrounded by ultraconservative Floridians . Hey, you don't expect all those Central Florida orange growers to be tolerant and reasonable, do you? Historically, Tampa sat right on the fault line of the culture wars, with some nasty fights over lgbt rights ordinances in the 1990s. But in the last 15 years or so, Tampa and Hillsborough County have taken a decidedly left turn..

More like it is because it is filled with every crook and corrupt person from the Northeast who settles there in retirement (FPNY excepted.)

There are more scams and swindles and rackets based in Florida in places like Boca Raton than in half the U.S.

Trump and his crooks will fit right in.

I saw a bumper sticker after the 2000 election debacle, with the outline of Florida and the words "Electile Dysfunction."

Unfortunately, Mar-a-Lago is only six miles from where I live, as the crow flies. Hopefully the orange menace won't be able to stay there for long.

Florida is a microcosm of the USA. I spent two weeks in Fort Myers last month. I had two hyper-Trumper Lyft drivers and it was tough keeping my mouth shut...although I did defend our Pennsylvania election officials.

I have my B.A. in geography and am available for assistance.

Yes, west of Fort Myers is the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. And the University of South Florida is in Tampa. Fort Myers is home to Florida Gulf Coast University.

I shouldn't have said Tampa, I didn't spend much time there. I was in between some shady areas of St. Pete and some richy rich areas of Clearwater for a couple weeks. I only spent a day going around Tampa.
