So, this morning I drove to my boyfriend's university. Take a wild guess what we did as soon as I walked through the door into his apartment

Anyway, we went to see Dead Pool. Then we went out to dinner.

Anyway, at the dinner, while we were waiting for our food, there was this couple that looked like they were late 40's or early 50's that were seated next to us. That woman kept staring at us with a face of disgust. At one point, I held my boyfriend's hands and told him how much I'd been missing him. I guess that was the last straw for that woman, because she got her husband to get up and they went over to talk to one of the waiters. They were then led to somewhere else in the restaurant. I'm guessing they told the waiter they wanted to be seated somewhere else.

Normally, my boyfriend and I make it a priority to get up and leave as soon as we see any hostility. We just don't want to deal with any possible hassle. Today, we decided to stick around because that couple left before we could.

It's 2016. Yes, gay couples exist. And yes, we get to go out for Valentines' day, also. These homophobic straight people need to get use to having us around.

I complain because that incident sort of ruined the moment for us. We both lost our appetite. We ended up boxing most of our food. What a mood killer.

Are you trying a social experiment called "what would you do?" ;)

That sucks zombiekiller. Hopefully you've had fun nights since then to make up for it! Screw the haterz

Meh, we're going to the Florida keys in a couple weeks anyway.

And no, we weren't conducting any experiment or showing PDA. We're particularly careful about these things. We're not heroes. We don't ever want to end up on the 6 oclock news.

Valentine's Day is a great time for couples to spend together. A movie and dinner are always a go.

But now zombiekiller I have a question, in what year do we as a society grow up? What numbers will calendars display when adults stop acting like babies?

2116? . . . 3016? Sometimes I feel like I'm watching evolution in reverse.

But deep down inside I know there's a better world in store for us. And I want you and your boyfriend to live for that brighter future.

A little dose of truth, straight couples are intimidated by gay couples. Its still a little presumptuous to expect dirty old straight couples to not get insecure at something like that. Perhaps she was disgusted at something else, like her husband, and was using it as a way to convince herself that her husband was not gay? Who knows.

It wasn't that you were gay.

It was that it was inter-racial.

Last year a work colleague paid me a visit in Piraeus, inviting me to dinner at a Chinese restaurant on the seafront.

The restaurant had about sixty tables. We were the only customers, and proceeded to select a table at the front of the restuarant. Within five minutes of our arrival a young couple male, and female arrived and selected a table directly next to us...the inevitable mobile phones began operating to tell their many friends that they were eating out. Cigarettes were lit, and their loud conversation ensured that my host, and I were obliged to change tables to the far end of the restaurant.

It's was that simple. Just our entitlement to our space without being drowned out by the conversation, and polluting cigarette smoke of other customers. My host, and I are non smokers, and silenced our mobile phones to ensure that we enjoyed our time together, without interruption. I returned the un-answered telephone calls when I arrived home.

The restaurant has since closed. The food was poor.

But did you enjoy Deadpool?

Never let the homo haters get to you. A least your couple did just move.

Years ago, my partner and I were seated in a restaurant near a group of slaggy tarts, several of whom wore wedding rings and one of those women made it clear she did not like homos and kept making faces and talking about us in a very unflattering way. The word fag was overheard. But we stuck it out and pretended like it wasn't happening.

On the way out, I handed our waiter a note to pass on to her, saying 'I fucked your husband.'

I'm so sorry that shit happened to you. I don't know what area you were in, because I know in the south they act like that, but why can't people say "to each their own.?"

It also could just be the PDA aspect of it too. People already don't like PDA between straights, and adding a gay couple to it, in addition to maybe if one of you is masc and the other is fem etc., just more rarity to it, so many factors can add up to why people might feel disgust.

Me and my other half hardly ever show PDA, unless we're in a private place, or in a place where gay guys usually are like a gay bar or a gay bakery etc. We mostly do it because we don't want to make single people feel ashamed or upset, and of course ot avoid what sadly happened to you.

I'm just kinda ugh that you went to go see Deadpool. lol. The ads and teasers for it didn't put any toot in my horn. :P

Vote democrat ro get ready for a bigger back lash. Glad you stood your ground and stayed

Where do you live?

And where in the keys are you going? I adore key west.

We live in Chicago area. His uni is in central Illinois. We haven't decided where to go in the keys yet. Our hotel is in homestead. Like always, we don't really plan out our activities. We always play by ear.

I would expect that bullshit if you were in the Bible Belt but in Chicago is odd. Fuck them.

I stay at Island House a lot. I love it there. Key west is just beautiful. Wish I could live there.

This was in central Illinois where the boyfriend is attending a university. That said, I've observed something similar in the Chicago area.

I get it... I've lived in pretty liberal cities my whole adult life and seldom leave that comfort zone. Even rural California is pretty liberal. So I don't see that, ever. (That and the fact that I look like.... this... even a homophobic person is probably going to bite their tongue).

Sucks you have to deal with that.

(Stay at Island House and tell them I sent you)

It sucks that it ruined the mood and people can be shit, but the positive I would see is that I don't have to sit near people like that. I know what they are and now don't have to be near them.

By the way. The next time you get seated next to homophobes, be the ones who get up and ask to be seated somewhere else.

We've done that before.

Just tell them that you don't like being seated next to homophobes.
