What’s one thing you wish we knew five years ago?

I'd like to think the GOP would have voted to convict President Trump in his first impeachment IF they had known he would go so far out of bounds in the 2020 election and aftermath. Although we in the center and on the left could see it in his actions with Ukraine and other imperialist behaviors, I don't think the faithful could see any past the partisan divide as usual, and believed he was being attacked for being successful in office, so to speak.

In truth, the turning of the blind eye in that conviction vote by the Senate almost guaranteed Trump would see himself as invicible, even more than his chutzpah belied.

Now, conservatives are being dragged down by their own pride, unwilling to call a spade a spade, and to divorce themselves fully from a man who openly opposes democratic rule. I pray the moderates in the GOP find a way to wrest back control, else we're all headed for violence, on a national scale.

I wish I knew about and/or was aware of and at least partially understood the lower nature and pure evilness of so many of my fellow Americans.

I still don't have whatever it takes to understand it and suspect I never will but at least the shock of it all has worn off.

Something to do with COVID or something.

I remember seeing, around the time of the first impeachment, on either Slate or New York mag, a reporter quoting one Senator (anonymously, of course) saying that the vote to convict Trump would probably be 80-20 if it were a secret ballot.
