I was a voice major, so I had to test this.

I don't think it is technically true. In order to hum, or speak, you must pass air over (through) the vocal chords. That air must go somewhere, hence your comment about pinching the nose. HOWEVER, if you pinch your nose, and send your humming into your sinuses instead of your mouth, and open your mouth, you will be humming, not singing, and the only difference is you'll hear aspiration as air escaped your almost closed esophagus via your mouth. Try it.

And I don't want that to count as "my" ridiculous fact.

Mine is that, in a nation that is populated by almost 50% females, in which the vast majority of teachers are female, and in which a vast number of government employees are female, the United States has never elected a female president.

True, but I think there are psychological reasons for that which go beyond garden-variety misogyny. (Which isn't to say that those reasons aren't ultimately misogynistic.)

Thanks, but I avoid CE&P. If the modding were to be less biased, I'd feel otherwise, but there's no point in debate when the responses are filtered, censored, or even when mods dominate the discussion. It just becomes an unfair fight. There is basically no appeal. Divine right, etc.
