This one time, at church camp, my friend gave us all tampon insertion lessons late one night. It was prompted because one of the girls at the camp didn't know how to use them when she needed one for the pool. First she inserted it with the wrapping still on... then she inserted it backwards 
So we had a tampon demonstration that night using red kool-aid and fingers. I got to keep the instruction sheet from the box, its still in my wallet 2 years later too.
