Do you think your name helps shape who you are/ who you become?

The popularity of certain names.

What do you guys think? :D :gogirl:

I don't think a persons first name makes any difference.... sometimes though a last name does...
As in Kennedy, Rockefeller, etc; though it is not only the name in those cases but the lineage.
Since you started this thread let me know your opionion. Do you have an unusual name?
I once met a woman in a post office in Arizona, back in the late 60's, I was a very young kid then, I don't know her first name but she when she came to send a certified letter she said her name was Mrs. Hitler. Now that was a scary name.
I'm not sure names have anything to do with success, at least in the long run. Could be they have an influence when one is young.
My frist name has many different nicknames associated with it. I hated them all but I think I turned out OK in spite of that.

I absolutely DESPISE my name...

my mother and father wanted 2 different names... my father wanted a boy named Gregory... My mother wanted a boy named Sebastian.....

Damn my father to hell for winning that one....

Whats even worse is I got his middle name as my middle name and of course the family surname....

My initials are the worst part..... G.M.C.

god how I hate my name.....

my name doesn't fit me at all, i mean if i were popular or cool maybe, i think i would make a much better Herbert or Ralph but NOT ace!

My name is Jasun Burridge Dakota Mark.

so I was pretty much destined to be gay from zygote.

but NOT ace!

Your name may not fit you, but I love the name Ace!! I know an ace and he's hot stuff, and I love saying his name all the time (not in a mocking way, just a 'hey, I love your name' way).

My name is associated with redheads, but I am definitely not one of those. There have been so many nicknames, Rusty Bucket, Rusty Nail, Ferrous Oxide (One of my fav's), and then the usual Russ, which is what I go by to most of my family.

BTW nice post, Soilwork; or should I just call you Jasun?

Well man, I don't know if you are popular or cool but I think you have a cool name. And since I've seen your gallery photos I know you are a fine looking dude. Quite cute you are and the name Ace fits you I think.

I don't think you are a Herbert man.... but I think Ace fits you. Just one guys opinion.

:D

Wow, four names. That is like the English aristocracy used to do to their kids.... They always gave them several names.... All of your names are cool man, except for the Burridge one, any of them would be great to go by. I was born Richard Scott... not surprising since my heritage is English and Danish. Jasun, with that particular spelling is pretty cool, plus I like the Dakota part too.

My name is not a problem, except for the fact that it's too common. Being named Michael makes about as much difference in my life as being named Brian, Scott, Mark, Bill...it's all the same. What would make a BIG difference in my life is having a goofy name! My father wanted to name me Torbjorn after his grandfather, and my wanted to name me Rainbow because it had rained hard the night i was born, and the first thing my mom saw when she woke in the morning was rainbow. My parents were hippies, what can i say? There is an old lady down the street fom me and her name is Emma Hore....what were her parents smoking? And i knew a kid in school named Rex Dicks. That is beyond funny, but he must get his ass busted non-stop. He was one of the smartest kids in my grade, i would think he had it legally changed by now. Believe me, even some of the teachers would have to work at not laughing. Another reason his name was hysterical was that he had slightly bucked-teeth. I sometimes wonder if he turned out to be gay, imagine what he must endure at a gay bar.

Thanks for your feedback. My first name is Andrew. Sooo common. Often in class there would be 2 or 3 Andrews. At my work we had 5 Andrews @ one stage. We'd just go by Andrew then surname inital. Probably funnier if you're in the situation.. haha

I was thinking that if you came in contact with someone you didn't like or get along with, would that name stick with you & the association translate when you meet another person with the same name?

Also the popularity of names. I used to think names like Todd, Jason, Julian, etc. were cool & associating them with an image. Eg. One of the cool guys at school.

Has anyone else ever thought of this or am I thinking too much about it.
I need to get out more. LOL (!)

I was named after my grandfather who died very young (and long before I was born). My mother decided to change the spelling of the name, however, from Dominiqu to Dominic. When my grandmother saw the slip on my baby carriage she allegedly flipped out.

My grandmother died last year. After introducing myself to her numerous friends at the funeral, so many of them responded, "oh, your the one with the misspelled name." Talk about holding a grudge :)

My name is quite common too being David. I can think of at least 20 people that I know with the same name as me. When I was in high school, there was another guy with the same first and last name as me and I used to get mistaken for him all the time. People always end up assuming that my name is then "Dave" which bugs the hell out of me. I even once got in a fight with someone over being called Davey. :grrr:

My name is really weird, its actually a family name. Its long, as is y last name, and I never have enough room to write it. Its difficult to tell peop.le when they ask you at like a bar or club or something and you usually have to say it about 4 times and people say it wrong all the time, but I love it. Craighton (!)

My birth name is Shelomi
when I came to the US I started going by Shaun

My name is Mathias, which means "Gift of God" in hebrew, but it exists in three forms in my language. The official version (Maciej), Maciek - for friends, and Macius - for children.
When I was a child, I didn't like my name at all, but most of all I hated when someone called me Maciej or Maciek.
Macius kind of sticked to me, perhaps to distingush me from other Maciejs in class. I always looked younger than I was in reality. But I am still called Macius by some of my friends, and no, they didn't know me in my childhood.
My second name is Olgierd, which is an old lithuanian name (Algerdas), meaning something like "the brave one" or whatever. Doesn't fit me at all, but it is a nice name and rare. Strange is that it's a baptisement name, and original Algerdas was not even christian (some say he was baptised secretely, though), not to mention a saint.

In catholicism, we have a sacrament called (in polish) bierzmowanie, I don't know its english name (somebody plz tell me). It's when You finally become full-right member of the church. You chose your third name, then (or rather yoru saint patron). I wanted to be named Orhan (I really like that name) or Demetrios (I was really into turkish and late byzantine history back then). But Orhan is a turkish name, and the priest ordered us to find a saint of this name, so I couldn't take that name :(. There is saint Demetrios, patron of Thessalonike, but I recalled his name in polish is Dymitr, and it seemed much less appealing than Demetrios.
I decided to name myself Constantine, but somehow ended with Constantius, because St Constantius seemed a good man when I read about him.

My name is charlie, to me its just boring and kinda boy next door type of name. I hated being called charlie brown in school (although not nearly as bad as the other names i was called).

I'm named after my father. My father actually didn't want me to have his first name but my mom wanted me to have his name so i can be a jr. etc. My family always referred to me as jr., never by a real name.

I hated it when I was younger, but I've come to love my name.

Jeremiah ((from the book in the Bible))
Kent ((after Clark Kent.. mom had a crush on Christopher Reeve))
McCurry
