  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What about your name

In catholicism, we have a sacrament called (in polish) bierzmowanie, I don't know its english name (somebody plz tell me). I
Is it Confirmation?

My mother got my name from an rather obscure part of the Bible (old testament). It means dedicated to God. She didn't like it with the first letter and so she removed it. It is not very common, but it does sounds like other more common names. I like though although in the US I have to say it more than once. I don't like the fact that I don't have a middle name. I wish I did, but apparently my mother was too exhausted coming up with the first that she didn't have the energy to come up for the second one.

So, she told my Dad to come up with a middle name, and so, I have none...](*,)

I wish I had my grandfathers name as my middle name, his name was Adrian.

my mother named me after my father - my father was named after his uncle who absolutely hated that name and refused to answer to it or have it said aloud in his presence

I take after my great uncle - I equally despise that name and refuse to acknowledge it - in fact if I hear it, I don't ever realize people are talking to me since I am so diconnected from it

My middle name suits me much better and it is how I think of myself and what I answer to - like my great unlce we have tossed the hated name for use of the name Jack

Don't be sorry, middle names are plain and pointless, and so are last names. We wouldn't even have had them in Holland, if not for Napoleon. Then my name would have been 'Harke Harkeszoon' or something like that.

Like in Iceland? I think that is cool, the old fashion way of son-of...
Although I don't know how it would be in Spanish? Miguelez?

There's something about the name Brandon that just attracts people. Not quite sure what exactly attracts them, but it's cool.

I always liked it that the nobilty is often only descrbed by their first name. e.g. Queen Beatrix.
I was shocked that when I had to fill out a form in Spain, I had to write down my own first and last name, and only the first name of my parents. Apperently you get two last names there, the one your father has, and your mother's. So much for a homogenized EU name database.

It is like that in most of Spanish Speaking countries. I don't know about others. I like the two last names, I mean there are lots of Juan Perez, but less Juan Perez Rivera. Besides, we have mothers and fathers, not just fathers.
I've had problems in the US since my passport has both (Even though is a US passport) People think my mother's last name is mine...
