What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

Not surprised...I live in Western New York State, sixteen miles south of Lake Ontario!

Do you say yard or yawd. People from the east (to me) say yawd not yard. Also the way they say fire sounds like far.

Don't worry about the Rs that aren't used in the east. They all get used in Queens.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! This is so wrong. The Inland North is something my accent would NEVER be construed as.

I think my English degree plus being a voice major skewed the results. My grandmother was also schooled in elocution, so I have no doubt that I am Southern with some atypical word preferences.

Ha ha ha ha ha. NORTH!

Yes, I say Pop. When I was a wee lad in Rhode Island we had the unconventional (now) habit of calling it Soda Pop.
Imagine that.

And, "from Wisconsin"? Really?!

Grey, I've made it an avocation to listen to people around the country - there are many accents just moving from Montauk Point to Philly and Joisey to Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, lower then upper Hudson Valley - all before you head west along I-6/Rte 17 in the Southern Tier, let alone the Leather Stocking Region and then west along I-90 through Syracuse to Rochester and Buffalo, before heading further west.

And, no, just plain no on Philadelphia. I have friend from Philly, and others from Pittsburgh - Rochester is NOT either of those.
And my non-accent is a blend of living in different areas and having family in different areas.

When I speak in English, I do have a distinct French-Canadian accent...

I got the Northeast, but I cannot tell a lie.
BTW - is it normal for Midwest women to freak out when hearing a foreign accent?

I have the accent of someone from Saskatchewan.... some people say I sound very Canadian, other say I don't sound Canadian at all. I'd say my accent is pretty neutral, because I know people who make Bob & Doug Mackenzie seem American.

If anyone here has ever watched Corner Gas, Brent has a typical rural Saskatchewan accent.

For a Glaswegian a quite refined one.

Although on occasion the inner weegie comes screaming out.........:)

Northeast, 100%... most likely from North Jersey/ New York(Jersey City here, right across the Hudson from Manhattan so spot on)..and they didn't even ask how I pronounce coffee(caw-fee.. very strong New York/ New Jersey identification there) which is always a dead giveaway!

I can flatten my accent.. heck, even go general Southern or continental European, or proper British English... but have a very bad time with other regional accents. However, especially when I get excitable, my Jersey flows out instinctively!

I guess Midwest. Living in South Dakota, we don't really have an accent Just plain ol English.

I grew up in South Dakota leaving for California at age 26. Was there 25 years.
My linguist friend said I had a midland accent with a western twang.
My friends say I sound like a broadcaster.

I don't hear it but certain words and expressions people say I have a New York accent.
