Never heard of kale as being edible until a few years ago. It was the green leafy stuff in the produce department between stuff, a divider, between carrots and whatever and whatever. A decoration.
I remember a produce market that sold plants had kale one fall. I remember asking if that kale was a good tasting kale. The market owner said she had no idea--the selling point for her was that it was something that looked nice at a time of year when other plants weren't happy.

I'm not even sure when I became aware of kale as something one might eat... I'm guessing last 10-20 years?

It's not anything I remember from when I was growing up.

I grabbed a bag salad mix without really looking past the name. It was some bbq flavored dressing mix and it sounded good. I didn’t realize the main ingredient was kale. It wasn’t terrible with the dressing that came with it and an avocado that I added but eating the last of it today with a ranch dressing wasn’t good at all. It really has a terrible texture for a salad green.

And it seems to me I've also heard that kale is better nutritionally when it is cooked.

That said, I seem to recall buying bagged kale salads maybe 10 years ago and finding them OK. Possibly due to the dressing?

Almost all of my kale use now is as part of vegetable soup. Although I'm far, far more likely to use cabbage, in the hope I can someday become just like Vannie. (Actually, cabbage has history--it's what my mother always used for vegetable soup. Then, a practical selling point is that cabbage is cheap and it doesn't need to be used up as fast as kale.)

Up early for a Sunday Morning. Doing prep for making my Pierogie dough.

Just cozying on the bed after having a refreshing walk in the nature.

It's not so good in a sandwich either.

And done...the last batch of pierogies are freezing right now.

170 units...up from past years.

This should see us through the year.

Remember how moms would say: "Think about the starving children in ____!" We could pack up the kale and send it to the places where those starving kids are!

Easing into the day before I have to create a spreadsheet for tomorrow...thereby pissing away my holiday monday.

Just finished adding more data to a wishlist of companies to work at sorted in CRM.

That's a conversation that used to happen at Dutch kitchen tables "Think of the poor starving children in Africa!" "Well! Send my portion there!".

But not kale hash. That dish is well liked here.

And I still don't know what food it is, but that sounds so enticing...
