Re-watching As Good As It Gets.
I'm unfamiliar with this, but I am wondering if during there were times during the script writing, filming, and so on if there were moments when things weren't going well. And when they got each problem fixed as best as they could, the might have said: "It's as good as it gets!" Why that could be where the title idea came from!

Ha!

No, it's a very literary title. The movie's been out for over 25 years now, so I trust I should be forgiven if this is any sort of spoiler, but the title is really quite fine as a literary convention. It tells a key moment in the evolution of the protagonist, played by Jack Nicholson.

He is more than a mere misanthrope, but an actual sociopath. His life is a series of unforgivably vicious attacks on a world of hapless souls about him, usually harmless, well-meaning, and often unsuspecting neighbors and strangers who people his world, unwillingly.

As unlikely as it would seem, this is a love story, more challenged than The Taming of the Shrew. During the complication stage of the plot, our miscreant barges into his therapist's inner office and rudely demands to be seen, then and there. A knowing and wearied psychotherapist holds the line, and refuses to allow him to use his diagnosed condition as an excuse to act out and bully the therapist into putting him in front of the queue. After a brief back and forth, the man is ejected and leaves through the full waiting room (not the way he entered through the back), About six or seven urbanites are seated there.

In yet another moment of malice, Nicholson pauses, looks at them contemptuously, and announces, "WHAT if this is as good as it gets?!"

They look up, give him little reaction, and he marches out, to continue his bumpy, painful, and stumbling quest to escape the hell of his own making.

If I were to list 100 movies everyone should see, this would be in the top 50. I strongly urge you to find it and watch it. Will be a cathartic tale of redemption, if darkly humorous.

The part where he's pitying the gay guy and the clever reply.

A lot of truth in that movie...

The movie is SO filled with moments of anguish and personal horror that it can be uncomfortable to make it through, but always quite worth it for the poignant forced perspectivve to examine self and try again.

Hunt's tearful confession to her mother at the table sets up the evolutions to follow quite well, and resonates impressively to audiences old enough to have hit high center on the road of life.

I suspect non-urbanites have a harder time accepting the extremes presented in the story.

Just came back from walking in the mall. It was raining so I wanted to walk inside. The Girl Scouts were selling cookies in the mall, so I bought two boxes. I remember when they were $4 per box, but now they are $6.

Damn Biden and his inflation 😂

I’m currently being a pillow for two needy cats.

Just cleaning up after 2 needy cats...and I guess us too :ROFLMAO:

First good cleaning that the house is getting since Christmas and our days at death's door through January and February.

Holy crap. I can’t believe the interview I just watched on This Week with George Stephanopoulos

Cleaning my living room, eating my oatmeal, playing with the cat and posting here . . simultaneously.

The internet says multitasking is bad for your brain so maybe I'll just jerk off instead.

Finishing the big cleaning on the main floor today.

Which was made more interesting by having a tumbler explode like tempred glass does in my hand when I was emptying the dish rack...so taking up crumbs of broken glass has now used up my time this morning.

And I am not adjusting to the time change yet.

Warming myself in the afterglow of good news.

A young colleague at work who is in Contracts called me after work to reveal he and his wife are expecting, and are 12 weeks in.

He's one of the good guys in this world, and this is their first child after trying for some month. I'm very happy for them.

Trying to come to grips with it only being Thursday.

Slogging my way through Friday.
