  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What are you doing right now?

I only have a heat pump, so it's not going to be able to keep up with 8 degrees F.

Thinking of running the Emergency Heat on the two units to see if that works, but would probably need to sell my truck to pay for it.
Very likely. I know someone who accidentally had the switch on heat pump in the wrong position--and had a horrifying power bill.

I think I said this before here, but I lived one place with a heat pump and woodstove for a few months. During one cold snap, when the heat pump struggled, I put that stove into use.

We got a few inches of snow. Maybe 4, or so. Difficult to tell. Wind is whipping it all around. There's nothing on the picnic table ...
Currently -8° F out there, with -33° F wind chill.
There is NO way I'm going out! Walks are NOT getting shoveled, perhaps for a few days!!
No one is walking out there anyway ...

Making stuffed shrimp for tomorrow. Is it over yet?

I hope all of you who celebrate have a Merry Christmas or a nice Holiday.

Treat yourself to something good.

And thanks for all your replies in this thread. XO

Getting up to bake cookies, and then run some sausage balls to my neighbors, and return to do some painting inside.

Also need to clean up layabout items in the garage so I don't have to do that Christmas Day. A co-worker is coming with a crew on the 26th to collect the acoustic baby grand in the basement I'm giving him. He plays well, his wife sings, and he has four daughters. That seems a good home to me, and I distrust movers to keep it unharmed in the coming move to Arkansas. I'm just going to keep the black lacquered digital grand upstairs. It is smaller and much lighter, with no strings or soundboard.

Eating a piece of the pumpkin pie for breakfast

Found the headlamp.

Making pumpkin butter, then going into the crawl space.
Pumpkin butter sounds great. The only one I had was from Kitchen Kettle in Intercourse Pa. Too sweet it was. Be brave oh warrior. :)

I made one large deep dish pumpkin pie at someone's request. All from scratch. Buttery crust and fresh pumpkin. Just out of the oven

I'm in the middle of homemade sage sausage stuffing. Yes I call it stuffing.

Didnt wanna do another Turkey but it was taking up prime real estate.

Back from the bowels of my home, and beyond. (Details of crawl space in the Nerve thread.)

Baked the sausage cheese balls and took to my neighbor, gluten free. Their two grown children (in their 20's) are home, and the daughter doesn't do gluten, so i had to get some flour that was gluten free. Funny, when you are working up the mix in the bowl with your hands, you can clearly feel the difference in rice flour vs. wheat. It has a noticeable slip friction to it. Corn starch may be the same. And it may be the fineness of the powder, not the starch variety. Regular flour may simply be coarser.

Last night I baked a pecan pie and a buttermilk one.

The pumpkin butter turned out quite nicely, although it splatters terribly and did burn me before giving up the ghost. I haven't made it in some years. Read over a couple of other recipes. One used cider for the liquid, and sang the praise of cloves. I didn't like either idea. It's not apple butter. I like it with orange zest and juice. The spices I prefer are allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon, with only a hint of cloves. I sacrificed a couple of Ceylon cinnamon sticks to the spice mill, and used dark brown sugar sparingly. Added the zest of one lemon to the orange zest, too. I canned 12 half-pints and two pints, so am really happy with the effort.

Kept both fireplaces going until just now. Going to give it all a break and nap in the heat of the day (it's 24 outside.)

Getting ready to go to midnight mass. It's been at least a year since I wore my suit and I thought I better try it on early.

Just waiting for the family to arrive for dinner. Coming from different directions, each with some local weather issues...but here on the farm today it is bright and sunny.

Waiting on Pepto to start working was feeling a bit nauseous didn't eat a lot yesterday though just a sour feling.

Ate a bowl of split pea soup. I suppose this is "Christmas dinner" if only because it's the dinner I had on Christmas 2022. Since I'm alone--and lazy--there was no reason to bother with anything but a normal night's dinner. But I suppose at least the greenish split peas are a good match, color wise, for Christmas. Maybe if I do this again next year, I should use red onion.

Shorlty, I suppose I should do dishes... Too bad Santa can't send some of his elves to do them for me!
