  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What are you doing right now?

Just woke up from a nap and felt the need for loud as hell music. I blasted Africa by Toto. Beat it by Michael Jackson. That guitar solo had me playing the vaccuum cleaner handle. :)

trying to decide if this little guy:

is worth driving to Arizona for.

What a cute little puppy were you able to get him and sorry about your friend ShadowCat

wondering if it's safe to keep my doggies inside after i've mopped. i use 5 gallons of bleach to one cup of water, and if i can still smell it after the floor is dried isn't it worse for them? am i giving them doggy headaches? :(

I was going to get gas for my car before prices went up (any more) and noticed the ice all over my car including on the door for the gas tank. I sprayed de-icer on it several times and worked at it to open the door at home for about ten minutes because I wouldn't have been able to do it at the gas pump. Yesterday there was ice all over my car and I couldn't get the car door open. Fortunately, we had some de-icer and I was eventually able to open my door, but since we were low on de-icer I didn't use it on my windows and it took me half an hour to get the windows clear enough to drive.

I just got finished repotting .While watering this morning I noticed that some amaryllis had split the pot they were in. So I ended up replanting the bulbs in six pots, which were originally crowding one pot. You can easily plant amaryllis in the ground here, but I don't like to do that, because they tend to shrink down to nothing. My soil here is fine sand, devoid of organic matter and nutrients, so a lot of things struggle in the ground and die.

During my winters in Indiana I used a blow drier for hair to melt a hole through the ice at the top corner of my door, then pop the seam using a heavy-duty plastic ice cream scoop as a lever. Another trick is to whack the center of the door with a rubber mallet; that warps the door metal on a minute scale but is enough to break the ice (it works better if you've kept your car waxed).

Windows are a pain; you don't dare use the mallet trick on them! But you can use a blow-drier from the inside to break the contact with the glass by melting some of it. A crazy method was devised by a friend from Rochester: he had a cleaning head for his Dremel that wouldn't scratch glass but was great at cutting through ice; once he'd cut a trough the ice could be attacked along the edge with an ice scraper.

It took me 20 minutes to clean my windshield after leaving the car run for 20 minutes. I had a quarter inch of ice on the car.
