  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What are you doing right now?

I just got back from my genealogical society volunteering. They just opened up again, after shutting down for the Omicron variant. Actually they did the normal two week holiday shutdown, and then decided not to reopen in January.

Eating some leftover corned beef and cabbage and playing name that tune.

Trying to find a video of a song about the Bayraktar drones that I saw earlier. There was a version of it done by Sabaton that totally rocked, and had English subtitles, but when I looked a half hour ago to link to it for someone the half dozen different places it had been were all taken down! Someone is actively trying to suppress it, plainly; it really slams the Russians and Putin has hackers at his command.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about and can find a link, download the thing and save it!

I found a simple version in Ukrainian...

Not a lot of help.

Today I began spring lawn cleanup from a couple of pine needle trees that has acorns. I got the front half done. The lawn wasn't tall enough yet to cut short to get rid of the brown grass blades. But I still filled up two 95 gallon trash containers with pine needles.

Um, pine trees don't have acorns. Do you mean these?

Or like these?

Wish you could teleport those needles to me! I use them for mulch around seedlings in my conservation work.

This is the worst.

10 years ago, I would have killed for a project like we have been doing preliminary work on for a municipal client since last year.

But all along I was sure that someone, somewhere along the line would just kill it. So I enjoyed the foreplay....always thinking that if it ended up not coming to pass. I would finish off myself and then get dressed and leave.

But today, except for a formal resolution, this exciting/horrible project is about to become a real thing and all I can think about is my retirement moving again, although I know that some of my staff are pretty fucking chuffed.

And then, this afternoon, a past client looking to move a project ahead called out of the blue although I HAD FUCKING DREAMT ABOUT THIS two nights ago to let me know that the work from 2018 -2020 has borne fruit and the government has identified their project as a possible priority

This year, for the first time really ever, I have learned that age and experience is a trap.

For the first time ever, and related to some health related concerns....I see the real possibility of dying at my desk. And my partner, who is in his 70's and works with me every day...is not overjoyed.

What have I done.

Recovering from my visit to Paris. Went by the cruise park on my way home. Warned two guys I had had another STD. One of them wanted to be fucked by me almost immediately after I told him. We used a condom.

Trying to relax my aching muscles... It took me three and a half hours to plant eight seedlings today: since the summer is forecast to be drier than last summer, every tree I plant is getting a five-gallon bucketfull of good rich soil, which goes in a hole three feet deep and the tree gets planted on top. Except it worked out that with the different shovel I'm using it actually takes six and a half gallons of rich soil per tree. And each tree gets about a gallon of water, poured in about two cups at a time as the hole gets filled in.

Actually the hardest part was picking spots to put them: I figure I'll be watering them all summer, so I made sure that each one is in a low spot big enough that I'll be able to pour a half gallon of water and it won't run off but will soak in at the tree.

I was out and I saw our suburban city police car sitting off the road by the freeway exit and earlier this morning I saw our police car sitting back in the cemetery near an intersection waiting to catch someone speeding or going through a red light. I thought it is near the end of the month and someone must not have given out their quota of tickets yet.

Before lunch I saw someone on the roof of the house kitty-corner across the street from us. The roofs in our neighborhood are not very steep and it isn't too unusual for someone to go onto their roof to do some minor project or cleaning. The woman who lives there is in her 80's and has a woman care-taker come over about 4 hours a day, five days a week and she was there and there was another familiar looking car in the driveway so I figured it was a relative helping her out. She has two sons and two daughters, but one son has some kind of debilitating disease (multiple sclerosis?) so I was hoping it wasn't him. After lunch he was still working on the roof, maybe caulking and patching, but I noticed a ladder lying on the ground near the attached garage. I thought I hope that isn't his ladder and he has another on the other side. It was a windy day and it was an aluminum ladder. I decided that I had to stay by the window until he looked like he was coming down and go offer help, if needed. I didn't know of he had a cell phone with him or not and if not, he could be up there hollering for help and no one would hear him with the windows closed. After awhile it looked like he wanted to come down and he brought out a cell phone, so I went over there, followed by my brother, and he said he had just called his grandmother inside and her lady helper and they were going to come out to try to put up the ladder. My brother and I helped him. He said he was 35 years old and her grandson.
