  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What are you doing right now?

I was feeding a couple of Azaleas some nutrients outside on this gorgeous day.

They are healthy looking but don't seem to be doing much of anything.

Watching 4 guys and a woman take down 2 huge trees in our front yard and clean up. The trees were maybe 80 feet high and the oak was over 3 feet thick. They started around 9:00 AM and aren't quite done yet after 2:00 PM, but it was faster than I had figured. They have an amazing crane and a good sized shredder. We had gotten 3 estimates and it was amazing at the spread of the figures. They were: $3,200, $7,500 and $11,900!? We took the cheapest one which was referred by a neighbor and they are doing a good job. The one we hired also gave us a price for a comparable tree in our back yard of $3,600 for just one tree, but we aren't doing that one now. Don't know why the back one would be much more, except they wouldn't be able to get their equipment into our back yard. Three of the guys aren't bad looking, but it is hard to get a good look at them in their heavy clothes and safety helmets.

Also, earlier, I had a phone conversation with my credit card company and Amazon over a charge they had denied and got that straightened out finally.

Eighty feet high and three feet thick? Depending on the particular species, that's medium-sized for an oak. There were some where I attended university that were still around from pioneer days that were over a hundred feet tall and four-and-a-half feet think --Oregon oak, Quercus garyana, was considered for the official tree of the LGBT group on campus because it belongs to the botanical family Fagaceae.

Ohio once had cast stands of red oak, Quercus rubra, which has reddish wood, but the majority were cut down to make railroad ties; the wood makes absolutely gorgeous hardwood floors. If yours was red oak, eighty feet is impressive; that's a good 25% taller than typical. Red oak has a small trunk compared to its crown size.

Oregon oak (Can you tell which direction the prevailing wind comes from?):

Drinking a toast to the sinking of the Moskva.

Apparently Ukraine really meant 'Go Fuck Yourself' at Snake Island.

Finally got around to doing my taxes.

I've been waiting to hear back from the free tax form people -- I have income that goes under "Wages and Salaries" but doesn't come with a W-2. It took TurboTax three years to get this kind of income worked into their software; I wonder how long it will take these guys!

I just don't want to have to print the whole thing and finish it by hand (again).

Having a cup of Lapsang Soochong tea after a MAJOR housecleaning on the main floor in preparation for the family coming for dinner on Sunday. Right down to vacuuming the outdoor west verandah where folks will enter from the garage....only to have this big wind blow shit back.

I'm relaxing now, after having showered. This morning I assembled and used an edger/trimmer for the first time this morning. It said that I needed to mix gasoline with 2-cycle motor oil, so I had to make an unexpected extra trip to Home Depot, because I didn't want to mess with the can of gas I use for the lawn mower. So, I filled the new can with gasoline and added the 2-cycle motor oil, only to fined out that the gas wouldn't pour. I talked to my neighbor, he looked at it but couldn't figure it out either. I then found my magnifying glass to read all the microscopic print on a label on the side of the gas can, to see if I could figure it out. It turns out that, in addition to opening the lever, you have to push this apparatus (which is hard to move, something you wouldn't think of) at the same time to get the gasoline to pour. It trickled out slowly, and it made my hands sore to have to keep pushing the apparatus down.

It worked well once I got it started, but just use for about 10 minutes completely wore down the strings, so I'm going to have to re-string it before next use.

Digesting Lunch from the Mexican restaurant I had with my kid

Trying to keep semi-functional....i have apparently aggravated the infamous L5...one of the vertebrae I fractured when I was about 30.

After a heavy session of cleaning....omg. So I have broken down and taken 292's.

I will be asleep by 7pm.

Jerking off in the bushes again, huh Vannie?

I never beat around the bush

Both plants have a single flower going on. Small progress but progress none the less :)

I'm trying to decide if I feel like cooking or ordering delicious unhealthy Chinese food.

I really need to stop cooking like I'm cooking for 40 people.

I ended up making a huge pot of Minestrone soup with all of the getting old produce in the fridge. Made some mini bow tie pasta with it. Was good with some parmesan and a drizzle of olive oil. Kinda chilly here in NJ today around 50 degrees but windy. So a good day for soup.

And I added a huge head of chopped cabbage. Thank God I'm alone today.

I'm rewatching Season 1 through 10 of The Walking Dead and enjoying it more this time around. Maybe because I'm not being distracted. A lot of details that I didn't notice the first time.

Feel better rareboy :)

I’m cleaning up the house. It looks like a cyclone went thru. How can one kid make such a mess in 48 hours?

I’ve got leftover Mexican for dinner. A Texas quesadilla
