  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What are you doing right now?

Sitting here looking out the window. I just watched my neighbor across the street planting a sign that says "Jesus is the reason for the season" in his front yard.

Just finished Thanksgiving dishes!

Admittedly, my meal of lentils and rice, served to one, didn't generate many dishes. Almost everything got washed last night. But the pan needed a bit of soaking, and hating doing dishes, I kept finding good reasons not to scrub said pan. Then, a few minutes ago, I ran out of good excuses. (And the fact I'll want the pan for tonight's slop dinner is good incentive to get it cleaned up.)
Sounds delicious.

But one of the best ways to avoid scrubbing pans that have proteins stuck to them is to pour in some straight white vinegar and let them soak a bit. Or cover nad heat it up.

Voila. No scrubbing.

I am recovering slowly from 'not COVID'....spent part of today in bed after being out for dinner with cousins lasdt evening.

I hate to whine, but the rib I cracked coughing is just misery still and now we have to start prepping for a family lunch this week. help...........

Thanks!

We've all been here before...but I more and more understand why people sometimes just give up with respiratory infections.

I'll have to try the vinegar sometime.

This time, I just put warm water in it the night before and covered it. It cleaned up reasonably easily for this particular pan.

I've considered getting a pan with a nonstick coating for things that I know have a real likelihood of making a mess of the pan. But such a pan has not crossed my path at the right price in a discount store. And I figure anything used is likely to have degraded nonstick coating. Some pans I see at Goodwill are more than degraded. (And not just nonstick. I see old Calphalon that has plain aluminum visible inside.)

And then put it on self-clean.

Voila.
Foolish me--I thought cleaning mode referred to the oven, now I realize it's for the pots put inside of it!

Seriously, though, I think I've heard of people running some cookware through sell cleaning. Obviously, it's has to be something that can withstand the temperatures. And this would probably be "at your own risk" for both cookware and oven. And the people doing it aren't doing it to do daily cleaning--it's to take a yard sale find that won't fully wash up, and clean it up.

My father used the self cleaning mode once on his oven that I know of--but not to clean it per se, but apparently get rid of some small ants that were living somewhere in the area of the stove, maybe in it itself. One cycle, and there were no ants to be seen ever again.

A few things on regular steel pans steel wool can be great or try Dawn dish soap the Platinum one! Then there is putting baking soda all over the bottom of the pan pouring boiling water in it waiting for it to cool and then scrubbing it out! If something should stick to non stick then use a nylon scrub pad! Also regular cookware (NOT NONSTICK) can be scrubbed with Bar keepers friend or bar keepers friend cookware polish!

Relaxing after dinner watched some shows about toys on hulu while decorating the house watched a European Christmas PBS special and now watching Only Murders in the Building!

It is just simple chemistry. Acids break down proteins.

You don't need non-stick. Just a 3m scrub pad and the power of vinegar.

I have even saved burned pots and pans this way.

Off for a nap this afternoon after cleaning the first floor before having family to lunch this week. Tuckered.

Shepherds' pie in the oven.

Made with real shepherds.

Slurp.
