  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Attention What are you having for dinner?

No, something celeriac from Joy of Cooking.
So my Beppe made the most amazing 'Dutch' soup, but even she cheated postwar with Koenig soup bases etc.

My partner and I started from scratch...and I even had original Dutch( East Indies) spice mix cans. (My Gparents had Indonesian cooks when they were married)

We only make ours entirely from fresh ingredients and seasonings. I watched her make it. I have my mother's interpretation and my Aunt's variation...but I think ours wins hands down.

Made from fresh stock. Has little meatballs. Is infused with Maggi. Vermicelli.

Tastes like Heaven.

My Mom did a version of this but I never had a name. But she cheated with LeGout wet soup base that I would bring home from a restaurant.

Was good. And yum Maggi.

Had a pound of lean ground beef defrosted so I made a tasty Meatloaf (He said Meatloaf  )

With mushroom gravy fresh whipped Yukon Gold potatoes and homemade creamed spinach with just a pinch of nutmeg.

Had fresh macerated strawberries on ricotta with a good drizzle of honey.

Honey and my Nephew and his wife enjoyed it.

A nice home cooked Mom meal.

Tuna casserole redux. We made enough for leftovers.

El Pollo Loco's killer good Chicken and Avocado Tostada w/Creamy Cilanthro Dressing - we both love those things. They grill the chicken fresh and everything else is fresh as well.

Were the tomatoes and garlic and onion on the side or did you combine them into a relish?

Oh, and do you broil your steaks or cook them in a skillet? Or (now that I remember that you're in Miami) do you grill them outside?

Cooked the steak on a skillet and fried the tomatoes and garlic and onion in a pan with a knob of butter and it was good

I just can't get steak right when I try to broil it or skillet it at home. And the smoke can get strong enough to set off the smoke alarm, which will irk the neighbors.

When I want beef cooked at home, I get ground beef and mix it with salt, pepper, and ridiculous amounts of onion shredded on a box grater as if it were an Oklahoma onion burger. Then I make it into patties and slow-bake it at 250 for an hour or so. Works pretty well.
