Attention What are you having for dinner?

I don't know if I'm starting up my soup-soup-soup rut again...but it's been featured three times over the last few days. Two times were store soup aisle products, one was a very hastily thrown together soup made from scratch. The weather was icky the last few days, so something warm was welcome. And then there was end-of-the-month budget blues to contend with. Tuesday's dinner was very much influenced by marching through the grocery store with the thought in mind that I was down to the last dollars in the allocated budget. (Thanks for my tightwad ways, I stayed within the budget by $1.50.)

Went to Subway (first time in about 3 months) with a buddy and it was my turn to buy. Two footlongs, 2 drinks, 1 bag of chips for over $34 (before tip)! That's a lot for a couple of fancy blogna sandwiches.

Wow! I never go to Subway. It's way too expensive for a sandwich and a sandwich, however expensive, is not really a substitute for a proper meal. Also Subway, rather like McDonald's and similar, is a shop rather than a restaurant which means that (in the UK at least) tips are neither given nor expected.

What happened to the $5 footlong?

I have totally stopped tipping at counter service. They are just doing they job - not providing any extra service. Waiters and waitresses get paid a lower wage due to tips so I tip in a sit down restaurant - but for counter service - especially since in California they have made $20 an hour the minimum wage for fast food workers - I don't tip.

I think we are having chicken burritos and refried beans tonight.

It was a friends birthday this week so tonight he came over for dinner. Nice thick Rib Eye steaks, baked potato and a tossed salad.
To clarify, was this tossed salad referring to greens served with the steak? Or was it the after dinner entertainment part of the celebration?

Last night was corn chowder.

Or, as I think of it, chowder for the chowder head!

About to have some black bean soup. It was a complicated recipe (add hot water and stir), and I hope I carried it out OK!

I had made a real hearty Lentil Stew with chunky carrots and onions with celery and whole carmelized garlic cloves. Added large diced pieces of chicken from a leftover whole rotisserie chicken minus one breast.

Towards the end cooking time I added some crushed tomatoes and a pound of baby spinach and some cumin.

Had it with brown rice and a roasted and mashed sweet potato. Some good extra virgin olive oils from Greece. Was absolutely delicious if I do say so myself. :)

I was looking forward to freezing a few containers to have on hand. Unfortunately my sister called and had me on the phone for almost 3 hours because another one of my Nephews had pneumonia bad and was in the hospital with inflammation in his liver and lungs and peeing some blood. Yikes!

Anyhoo.....I ended up leaving my Lentil Stew out all night and had to throw it out. Was out way to long.

Thanks Guys for all the replies.

extra virgin olive oils
is extra virgiin olive oil an olive oil that has never even masturbated?

I hate it when this sort of thing happens! I haven't had it happen to a large pot of something, but there are times I've forgotten to put some individual item away.

OF course, if I did leave out a pot of my cooking and it got moldy, there is always a possibility it'd taste better.

I hope the nephew will be OK!
