Hey guys - here's one you don't hear everyday. One of Elton John's unusual hits: "Mama Can't Buy You Love".

Chances are that if you've ever heard this song it was the 1979 re-mixed collaboration between Clive Franks and Elton John, toning down somewhat on the lush mid-range orchestration and boosting the baseline and percussion.

I'm posting the seldom heard 1977 version recorded as part of "The Thom Bell Sessions" with classic Thom Bell touches like a full orchestra and background singers. All the mid-range is in full force in this version. I'm astounded by just how lust this version is, almost to the point of "over-produced".

It was Thom's idea to have Elton lower his register for the song, brings out a nice richness in his voice, imho.
Nice to see photos of Thom Bell at the end of the video. Thom, his brother Leroy Bell and Casey James work with Elton John to create one of the most unique hits in Elton John's legendary career.

Gotta Love that 70's string section, LOL!
