rmcrae, since you seem to be a big chaka fan i wanted to share a story with you. i used to work at tower records on sunset blvd. in the 80's and 90's. i worked with a guy named hilly waters. a real cool, laid back dude. he used to tell us all that he was friends with chaka khan. we never knew whether to believe him or not. unfortunately he died of aids. we all went to his funeral at the hollywood united methodist church and right before the funeral ended chaka khan come from the back of the church and sang. it blew our minds. her voice soaring thru that church so strong and pure is something i will remember for the rest of my life. it was truly glorious. i've alway thought her voice sounded more like an instrument than a human voice. here is a picture of the church. it always had huge aids ribbons on it.

Thanks for that beautiful story and pic of the church, damques! :) I bet your friend was looking down and saying "I told ya so! Lol. Chaka's often accused of screaming, but I'm with you on her voice sounding more like an instrument. She can coo when she wants to, but she's really in her element when she lets it fly. Thanks for sharing Roll Me Through the Rushes with me. It's my first time hearing it. :)

And I liked that you posted Christina Aguilera's Beautiful the other night. That song and the Stripped record got me through some tough times in my teens. :)
