  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

what are you personally making for Thanksgiving?

some other website, bitterness and resentment, if I do it right.

Damn those deviled eggs look great.

A massive dookie.

Actually my job is to bring a case of wise to it.

I'm cooking lemon, chocolate, and sweet potato pies. They will all be consumed by Thursday night.

I've made the green bean casserole with fresh green beans and it is much better that way. You use lots of the beans and it's basically just cooked green beans with a sauce on them. Yummy.

A 22-lb. turkey for a dozen people. The usual sides. 4 home-made pies (I'm cooking the pumpkin from scratch, as my FB friends have seen) and cream puffs.

THAT sounds wonderful. Could I have a recipe please?

I can't remember what exactly goes in it. Usually my brother and I throw it together while making everything else and it's been his turn the last few years. It's basically:

Boil or steam green beans for a few minutes until tender, but still crisp.
Cool and dry.
Toss with toasted and chopped walnuts. You can add onions, too if you want.
Drizzle with a light vinaigrette (you can be creative here, but I keep it simple).
Top with salt, pepper and crumbled feta.

^ I would suggest balsamic for the vinaigrette.

Last weekend we hosted our usual "Gay Thanksgiving" event and I made a blueberry, cherry, apple, pumpkin and chocolate cream pie along with two loaves of pumpkin bread. Others brought duck, lobster mac and cheese and a host of other things (together with LOTS and LOTS of wine).

Tomorrow for my mother-in-law's house, I'm making a pumpkin and blueberry pie along with pumpkin bread.

^So what tv dinner are you microwaving this year? :p

I forgot to mention I am bringing my friends babydog 4 year old Rotty some treats. Dog beef jerky, some other doggy treats, my friend wants to give him some beer too, I am bringing him bread (which is his favorite) and a banana and apple to try to see if he likes it, he has become quite finicky lately. last time he wouldn't eat a carrot or peanut butter or wavy bacon dog treats or dog biscuits. He also won't eat icecream anymore at home, he will only have fresh softserve from Checkers.

I bought myself a frozen yet fully cooked cajun turkey from honey baked ham.

All I had to do was heat it up.

The turkey is for me alone cuz most people in my family are allergic to turkey. They get very itchy after eating turkey.

I already had some turkey......it is divine. yum.

I am also baking some sweet potatoes and I will let him try it and hopefully he will like them.

I also bought his a doggy toy, it's a plush squeaky toy that is shaped like a trophy and says #1 Best In Show. (*8*)(!)

^^^This is as far as my cooking skills go

looking at the photo just made me hungry.

So, you're sticking a finger in?

Actually, snide remarks aside, I think the only thing I have against it is that is it too overused.

Funny, many favorite foods just seem traditional, but even then, I like at least a new take on them.

Maybe it is because we had green beans as a side too often when I grew up. I prefer almost any other fresh green vegetable.

Also, I learned to prefer fresh green beans more lightly cooked rather than the hot waterboarding practiced on them by Southerners.

Green beans cooked for hours with some bacon, a little vinegar and a little sugar .... incredible memories of my childhood and my Mom. I missed her more today than normal.

Definitely.

I should point out that I'm talking the real 24 year old 'oh my fucking God, that is expensive' balsamic.

Well since I have arrived late I guess it is a damn good thing my first name is Johnny....

I did the salad and it was quite good. Got the recipe from Southern Living and it called for red onion which is one of my favorites so in it went. I used an actual goats milk feta in brine and that was perfect as well.

RB I did not use OMG balsamic but the recipe in southern living called for white vinegar and I chose a White Balsalmic...

The result was absolutely fabulous.
