  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What are you reading right now?

Rule #1 - an investing book by Phil Town. I'm taking most of my retirement money out of mutual funds and into stocks I choose. Time is running out and I can do better than the mutual funds, I'm sure!

This week I've read:

Currently reading this book ....

A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn.

It covers the treatment and revolts of Native Americans, blacks, communists, labor strikers, women, draft dodgers, immigrants, indentured servants, and the poor in America.

The Memory Keeper's Daughter--by Kim Edwards

Damn... you're a power reader! Do you particularly recommend any of them?

Waking Life, The Rabbi's Cat and Jimmy Corrigan are all graphic novels and all great. "Waking Life" is a series of six (so far).

Zoology and Promise Not to Tell are both first novels and you can tell. Zoology is well written, but I found myself getting a little bored towards the end. Promise Not to Tell is a lot better than the cover would lead you to believe, but the end feels tacked on.

The Dot is a kids' picture book that I bought for my daughter. It's wonderful.

Adverbs, by Daniel Handler (otherwise known as Lemony Snicket) is proving to be difficult. The story and characters jump around a little too much for my taste... and I'm a huge fan of Jeanette Winterson so that's saying something.

One People, Two Worlds is fascinating... I've been reading it in bits and pieces.

I'm currently addicted to the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters, crime, wit, plot and humour!! What more could I ask for? I've just started Thunder in the Sky, the twelfth in the series.

Erm... I just noticed that I called The Walking Dead "Waking Life." That's what I get for typing and talking at the same time. Walking Dead is great; Waking Life is a pretentious waste of film. !oops!

The Idiot's guide to Urban Legends

Today I read this book:

It's a young adult novel about a kid struggling with life in general. I enjoyed it.

I am currently reading: The Innocent Man by John Grisham.

Grisham1190.jpg

This is the "first" non-fiction novel ever written by John Grisham and one in which I think he does a superb job.

I think he selected this "true-story" because the main character of the story so closely resembles the back-ground of John Grisham. Mr. Grisham was also an aspiring baseball player, before he too was side-lined by an injury.

I am NOT totally finished with the book; but the story holds my interest totally and since it is a true story, I'm interested to see how many other innocent people are serving in our prisons!(*8*) (*8*)

I've just started reading "The Children Of Hurin" - J.R.R Tolkien
